Posted November 2, 201014 yr heres some new babies from my most successful pair to date. two are starting to come out in colour can anyone help me tell what they are? i relise that the flash isnt helping the situation much but i cant figure out how to take it off:huh:
November 2, 201014 yr I can tell you they arent opaline At this early stage look at the pin feathers that develop just above the fleshy tail bump, they are the first to show colour. As for mutation, depends on the parents. Cinnamons have pink eyes for the first week or so before darkening back to near normal colour. Opalines get white down feathers which you dont see on the oldest chicks here. Spangles have white (or yellow) primary tail feathers, easily seen as the pin feathers develop. Pieds also have white/yellow tail pins but also have a pink/bald patch on the head and the wings depending on the type of pied. (Bald as in no pigment, but feathers do develop obviously ). Greens very early on have yellow showing in the wings, yours appear blue
November 2, 201014 yr theirs also a green based one their dean the little one under the blue one well not blue but blue based could be grey depending on mum n dad as you said
November 2, 201014 yr I don't know their colour, but I think you should give their box a clean thats just rued squeek his or her box is not actually unhealthy at all if i remember i remember a thread you did where i though that your whole aviary needed a good scrub down i think you should look in your own yard before telling someone else their place it dirty when quiet frankly i do not think its worthy of such an insult maybe just a blow to clear the concave but thats all
November 2, 201014 yr i relise that the flash isnt helping the situation much but i cant figure out how to take it off:huh: If you cant turn it off, place a piece of tape over the flash unit
November 2, 201014 yr theirs also a green based one their dean the little one under the blue one well not blue but blue based could be grey depending on mum n dad as you said Good eyes GB. I had to tilt my screen before I could see the yellow wash on the pin feathers. The flash makes it glare and hard to see but you are spot on!
November 3, 201014 yr Author thanks for the help guys, the parents are both yellow faces, yeah the biggest looked grey to me but im not overly sure this being my first breeding season. the other two that have pin feathers have yellow on the flights. which the camera didnt pick up so well i relise that the flash isnt helping the situation much but i cant figure out how to take it off:huh: If you cant turn it off, place a piece of tape over the flash unit i didnt realise you could tell that young thanks kaz
November 3, 201014 yr Kaz is so good she can sense the gender of her own birds whilst they are still int he egg, but for us mere mortals we have to guess looking at ceres, and Kaz is still better at that then us -
