Posted November 1, 201014 yr This is a difficult question for me. I initially wanted to breed Marigold and Skye again February-March next year but I'm starting to think I should pair up late December, during the school holidays so I can be there at all times and be able to hand rear if nessecary. Or maybe January, so I can be there when the chicks are young and Marigold is laying? Which one would be best?
November 1, 201014 yr The topic read when should YOU breed ..........when you are old enough. As far as the budgies go, Weather over those months plays a huge part. Where they will be and how hot it will be you need to consider. No point breeding them when chicks in nests will get real hot. Whats your conditions around that time of year ? and where will the breeding set up be ? Will the birds even be in breeding condition at the time you select ? Edited November 1, 201014 yr by KAZ
November 1, 201014 yr Author Thanks Kaz It will be very hot during December, January and February, cooling off in February. The breeding set up will most likely be outside, under the veranda. The male are moulting now, but that should be over soon. Didn't think about the heat .
November 2, 201014 yr Hi Ratzy, I have best results in Autumn and Spring, its not about when suits you its when your birds are ready and in great condition. Cheers Clearwing
November 2, 201014 yr wouldn't she need a rest you have breed two clutches this year with her do you think maybe another pair should be breed or at least give her a 6 month break even my pets go two rounds and 6 month break thats one round then rest for 3 weeks then another round rest for 6 months she will be drained but then i really cant remember when and what times you have breed her so you may of done this but i agree with clearwing
November 2, 201014 yr Author Thanks! She has only bred one successful clutch this year but has laid a few more eggs besides. That was the reason I thought Feb-March, give her a long break. When the time comes I suppose..... And when my birds are ready.
November 2, 201014 yr Not sure what state you are in Ratzy, I'm in Queensland, so I won't start again now til March - April as it's way too hot......
November 27, 201014 yr Author Looks like they'll be coming into condition in a few weeks. By then they will have stopped moulting.
November 27, 201014 yr Looks like they'll be coming into condition in a few weeks. By then they will have stopped moulting. and they will come into condition again in March like you were advised is a better time of year to breed not now.
January 5, 201114 yr I read the topic heading and I agree with Kaz. You are far too young right now Ratzy and you should wait until you meet that right person.
