Posted November 1, 201014 yr Trawling through the internet and I decide to look at the WBO webpage. Now I know you are all thinking about the World Boxing Organisation but alas, I am not. The World Budgerigar Organisation is what I'm talking about. Even before I clicked the link, the thought entered my head, "And what's that got to do with the price of Fish." Is the WBO THE most irrelevant Organisation in the world?! Maybe its because we are way over on the other side of the world and we can't import/export budgies here that makes it so irrelevant to me but it just seems pointless. Do they actually make any decisions that the ANBC is bound by? Or are they like the UN, always passing resolutions, but never taking any action? Edited November 1, 201014 yr by JimmyBanks
November 6, 201014 yr My little dealing with the WBO makes me think that it's an irrelevant organisation, at least for us anyway. Although the ANBC is a member of the WBO it seems that we still do our own thing. For example a little while ago the WBO was trying to establish a pictorial standard similar to the ANBC pictorial - you know the pretty bidgie depicted in the standard. Well the pictorial was released with minutes of the meeting and the resolution to adopt the standard across the world. Australia effectively said, nick off, we prefer our own and we will continue with it's use until such a time as either we develop something else OR the WBO comes up with a better one. In fact the ANBC suggested that the WBO use our pictorial standard instead. So with that little bit of insight I would have to agree at least in an Australian sense - the WBO has little relevance to us here except for maybe on a political level where judges are angling for international judging gigs.
