Would like to know how I should clean my cage ready for a new budgie. We had a lost budgie which we found a new home in the cage last week and want to know how to clean the cage ready for a new baby.

Im sure if I use a weak bleach solution and then thoroughly rinse it is what I should do, but wanted to ask so as to not harm our new little baby. Also what would kill any nasty bacteria that might be hanging around in the cage from the previous bird ?

Hi Paul and Welcome, For cage cleaning I use virkons but I am sure if you used hospital grade disifectant like domestos it should be fine. The best thing to kill germs is the sun so after cleaning and if possable sit out in the sun for a day.

Vineger is a very good cleaner and it is known to be non toxic and kill bacteria and is used as a cleaner.

When using any cleaner it is the fumes that can kill your bird not just the residue.

I have cleaned the cage with demestos and thoroughly rinsed and wiped it until I could not smell the cleaner on the cage and then left the cage out in the sun for a better part of a day. All ready for our newest member of the family hopefully I will have some photos to post by tommorrow

I agree with the use of vinegar.
