Posted October 30, 201014 yr We have been having bad storms here in Queensland the last few weeks, one of them hit in the afternoon and the wind was very bad......water got in the avairy slightly and most birds were okay, a bit shocked and flighty but okay. I put Cocci treatment in the water for a while after and kept a close eye on them, there were 4 that looked a bit "off", so I removed them from the avairy and watched them in a seperate cage for a week or so, they all seem fine now except for one... I have removed this boy three days ago and put him in a cage on his own with a heat lamp, I crop fed some sulphaD which perked him up for a day or so.......he is very light although eating, no poopy bum, poo is a bit watery though, fluffed up and he has a brown patch on his cere.... I have made an appointment with my Vet for next Tuesday at 4pm, I can't get there this weekend I have no transport...... Is there more I can do between now and then?
October 30, 201014 yr No need for sulpha meds if he is on coccivet which he should be still on. Looking at the cere, he has other issues going on as well. You seem to be doing all you can. Coccivet should be for more just just a "while" .........how long did you use it ? Did you totally scrub out the aviary and cocci comes in cycles and will repeat if the aviary isnt scrubbed top to toe. Edited October 30, 201014 yr by KAZ
October 30, 201014 yr Along with Kaz's advice keep the chick warm in a room if you can that is at least 80F warm does so much for them or you can put them under a light (there is more in the FAQ on what is safe), there is a link in there about what to do if your budgie is sick and what to look for etc.. Warmth again is so very important and it can pull many birds out of it along with medication (if needed) and an avian vet visit (if needed).
