Posted October 25, 201014 yr Thought I'd make a new thread, since I have chosen a name for the little guy now. Just to let those that didn't see the last thread know a bit about him. Firstly, I'm not exactly sure it's a 'him' in the first place. His cere is a light purple and very pale blue, but he's apparently only just out of the nest really; so nobody can truly be sure. I baught him from a petshop that the owners we are close to and have known for a long time, the birds are always very lively and healthy; Sparky included! Okay soooo, Sparky has been resting for two days, so thought now that he's worked out where his food and such is, I should start 'taming'. All I've done is sat near him, which makes him edgy and uncomfortable and then I rested my hand in the door of his cage. The poor little guy did his best to stay as far away from me as possible, and make a few of those scared screeches, not the happy sounds >.< He does get a bit flinchy still even when we walk past his cage, and is pretty uncofortable just when I'm sitting beside him (like now). Well it seems that way atleast, he hasn't moved since I sat down, yet his feathers around his face are a bit puffed up.. so then again, maybe I'm wrong? I planned on teaching the cutie to talk... but of course the actual bonding and more basic training comes first. I don't want to straight up say "I'm having trouble!" because he's only been here for two days, and I know it will take time. I really do hope he comes around, and any suggestions and tips are welcomed. Thankyou! -Lilly.
October 25, 201014 yr Only just out of the nest is too soon to be sold and go to a new home. They need a couple of weeks being shown how to eat by their Dads. Watch him closely and be very sure he has food in his crop as they can pretend to eat and not be eating at all.
October 25, 201014 yr Author Oop, perhaps they are wrong? He is rather small still and was one of the smallest in there. The man at the pet shop who sold him to me wasn't exactly sure how old he was and said he presumed he was just out of the nest, as they only just got the budgie and his three siblings in a couple of days ago. He has been eating, I am sure. I gave him a millet spray and he had devoured the whole thing within an hour, leaving only the shells on the floor. But I will make sure I take note of that and pay attention. Thankyou for the heads up.
October 25, 201014 yr Author Oh, sorry if that sounded like I was questioning you :S Well, thankyou again. And I will keep an eye on him, he actually appears to be eating his seed right now. Poor bubba, I feel a bit guilty now, eep. x) Anything I can do to help him adjust? Edited October 25, 201014 yr by Lilly:)
