Posted October 24, 201014 yr Hello Guys I have only just joined, so bare with me! ^^ A few hours ago I came home with my very first budgie, a gorgeous little yellow and brown male (not 100% sure). I have been reading up on them for the past week or so and was very attracted to their intelligence, ability to talk and also their adorable looks! Okay, so I'm 15 and I go to school 6 hours a day, so I hope this dosn't affect the 'taming' process all too much ): Either way, every hour I have when I'm home - I'm prepared to spend with him. So back to the point! I havn't named him yet, but I heard K, T or P names are better as the bird can learn to pronounce them easier? They said he was just out of the nest when I bought him, so presume he's about 7 weeks? I let him go in his new cage to check it out and left him to some peace and quiet. For about two hours he didn't move, just sat on one of his perches and blinked; poor boy. But now he seems to be much happier, he has started moving about, chirping and chattering to himself, and eating some millet I left in there for him. I am already attached to the little guy, even though I can only creep up to the cage and watch him at the moment. I'll make sure I get pictures when I can get closer to him, but I guess I just wanted to know your tips on taming. I've read up on the basics and such, from getting him used to my presence to finger-training, but I'm not sure when I should start trying to put my hand in and stuff? He's very flighty. I'll keep you up to date with him too! ^^ Edited October 24, 201014 yr by KAZ
October 24, 201014 yr Author Hey Well.. other stuff. I want him to be a companion, but a trained, friendly companion And I thought it would be fun if he could talk and such, so talking is just an added side... thing, I guess O.o But then again, I'm still not sure that he's a boy.
October 24, 201014 yr okay cool, the only taming thing i know is when your budgie gets used to you or sometimes straight away if he is friendly is to get him to perch on your finger. all you need to do when he is friendly is gently press your finger side ways on his stomach, if you can get close enough and he trusts you he will hop on. it feels very good when this happens.
October 25, 201014 yr Hi Lilly! welcome to the forum! Here are a few good ones to start you out: topic topic topic Have fun!
October 27, 201014 yr Author Thanks Heaps! I'll be sure to head straight on over and check those topics out. Having had him for only 3 days, I'm already starting to see that this will take a great deal of time and patience. Thanks again
