October 26, 201014 yr It was really interesting reading that info. Thanks for the explanation RIP Funny, I thought he was going to be something special when he fledged, but a week later and he already looks smaller than I first thought. How our perceptions change. He's still got very nice feather tho, and he IS dom pied lol mate that dom pied is good as dont go by size the smallest bird can turn out the biggest hes just young i have the same prob i look at my birds and go mmmmm thats small but then i go to others homes and think **** mine are actually good so dont be decived by size keep him he will grow on after 6 month moult
October 26, 201014 yr Author Oh dont worry. Anything I remotely like baby-wise, stays in my aviary for a good 8 to 12 months. I am lucky enough to have room to keep more than I need. I do a couple of big culls a year, until then, the young ones stay until they are about 12 months and if Im not sure, they still dont go lol Even if he is smallish in size, after he has developed, I still think he will be worth keeping for feather quality (and dom pied-ness) lol
November 5, 201014 yr Author That sky blue dom pied was a recent purchase and he isnt very big, but he's pretty. He is however, paired with my best hen, and they have 2 fertile eggs so far, so fingers crossed - more dommies!
November 6, 201014 yr can we see picture of mum in dad of this dom pied and a picture of it in normal sun it so looks mauve im wondering if mum is a violet grey green that way you could get a mauve this been bugging me cause looks mauve so much in pics what do you think sunnie what it look in real life
November 6, 201014 yr Beautiful chick and love the sky-blue in background of this picture as well. agreed with robyn, what a lovely bird at the back (skye blue) and sunnie that chick is fantastic !! , makes me want a spangle dom pied grey... or mauve =] i love chicks that look really fluffed up like the one you have i would definatley keep him, congratulations and i think im like you atm falling in love with pieds! dom pieds!
November 6, 201014 yr Author GB he hasnt graduated to outside yet, so I cant take a sunlight picture of him and he's dropped his flights and tail, so Im just hoping they grow back. He does look grey to me. I have ONE mauve in my aviary and she stands out to me, so I am pretty sure he is a grey. I will repost new pics when I get a chance though, just for your peace of mind I will post mum and dad - again when I get time to get some pics Thank you alpaca boy, I have a couple of dom pieds now in various colours - cinnamon dark green cock (who is my best boy), a daughter of his same colour I bred this year, that grey baby I bred and his mum who is also dom pied spangle grey green and two sky's, who are brother and sister. Hopefully, I breed a few more next year of my own.
November 7, 201014 yr He is grey not mauve. If you look at the cheek patches you'll see the difference. Also a mauve cannot have a sky blue parent EDIT: Whoops! Should have read all the posts before commenting Edited November 7, 201014 yr by Neville

November 7, 201014 yr yes pics needed for sure GB!! i want to see this great bird again, can you get some front shots of it sunnie???
November 8, 201014 yr Author As I said Alpaca Boy, he has lost his tail and flights which is really disappointing. I dont know if he will grow them back or not, but he certainly doesnt look like the chick he once did. He is also now "budgiefied" and not interested in sitting on my finger for pics anymore.......
November 29, 201014 yr Author Just some updates on this post. She lost all her flights and tail, but is now growing them back, much to my relief. I took some snaps this morning, including the parents and their new chick. This pair have only hatched one chick in each clutch, but I wont complain, one is always better than none. The thing I am really happy about, is that both of those chicks are dom pieds. Gotta be happy with that! Sorry the pictures of mum and dad are very average, mum doesnt like being out of the box much and dad, just wouldnt sit still. As we all know, pictures through bars are usually ordinary. Anyway....... Mum & Dad Mum - Dom Pied Spangle grey green Dad - Normal Blue New baby - Dom Pied green series Original baby today - Dom Pied Spangle grey hen
December 6, 201014 yr He is lovely, Only just saw this post but I to could see the white where Gb saw and thought pied too, and it looks like his wings are white without the black out line. BUT my answer is miles tooooo late because the later picture shows him pied. But really he is a nice bird. Just seen the new addition, wow 2 more pieds doing great, I only got one pied the year but she is nice though. The original is very nice too. Edited December 6, 201014 yr by splat
December 6, 201014 yr Good job. Keep the pics of the little one's development coming. Did you put the older sister from the previous clutch in a kindy cage?
December 7, 201014 yr Author I did put her in a kindy cage, where she unfortunately lost all flights and tail, but happily, she grew them all back before she graduated to the nursery aviary. She is now outside, with all flights and and tail feathers, and flying well. I will post more pics of the baby as it grows. I am hoping it might be just straight dom pied, rather than spangle. Most of the few dommies I have are cinnamon, or now a spangle and I would really like some straight dominant pieds to work with. In saying that though, I am pretty happy that although this pair only hatched one baby in each clutch, both have been dom pieds!!
December 12, 201014 yr Author Updates on their 2nd baby. At three weeks, he/she is looking quite nice. I think she will be better than her sister.
