Posted October 19, 201014 yr Hi all, Just urging everyone to check toxic plant list before giving birds new things. Sis with a few pet birds just e-mailed about her 2 babies and Dad dying overnight. The only thing they did was give them a BRACKEN FERN LEAF all parts are toxic on the list. Just pays to check. Sent on list for her to check next time, could save a lot of heartache.
October 19, 201014 yr Awww... sorry to hear about your sisters birds. You are right its always important to double check before giving birds new foods. Better safe than sorry...
October 19, 201014 yr Thats really sad People should think first.......not everything GREEN is safe food or safe enough to be in a budgies cage. A hard lesson to learn.

Hi I have had a look at a few lists and cannot find greviella, bottlebrush and crepe myrte on the lists. I assume these are safe because of the wild birds. Am I right with this???
October 21, 201014 yr Grevilla and Bottlebrush are fine, I have used both. The Crepe Myrtle (African Boxwood) I cannot say as I have never tried it.
October 30, 201014 yr Sorry to hear about your birds I just read the list and have a story to tell. Coriander - all parts are toxic My Bleep (Lost due to an open backdoor) used to go crazy over corriander. He would even try and bathe himself in it, funniest thing I have seen. He loved the stuff and never once did it affect him badly in any way. Is corriander only mildy toxic ? or is this incorrectly on the list ? I will definately consult this list before giving new things to my budgie from now on.

I planted cilantro, for us humans, and underneath the word "cilantro", the seed package had the word "coriander" on it. Either as its Latin name, or else because everything here is written in English and Spanish. Either way, I was surprised to see that cilantro and coriander were the same thing. But in any case, I have been giving it to my budgies all summer, so, I don't think it's toxic.

I have noticed Americans call it Cilantro and us Aussies call it Coriander.
