Next time I'll be using something a bit less flexible for the base, as the plyboard has a tendency to bend, which will make it more difficult to fit the metal trays.

 

I still have to make the trays and the divider - my task for the weekend.

 

Anyway, it's all a learning experience and I'm sure these will do me for the first few seasons!

 

 

Suggest you cut your nestbox doors so when you lift it up nothing falls out. Two thirds of the door you lift and one third stays put. Just remove the nestbox door and run it through the saw and put back in two sections.

Just a suggestion based on personal preference - cut the nest box holes hard to one side of the box and then make the concave on the far opposite side. In my experience hens love to lay as far from the nest hole as possible as it feels more secure. They will lay in most style boxes, but I have known a few breeders to experience troubles with nest boxes with center drilled holes and central based concaves where the hen will lay her eggs and repeatedly drag/roll them to the furthest darkest corner.

 

Since your holes are facing away from the light it shouldnt be a problem, but like i said - just a thought

Finally finished my project today (except Kaz's advice, i will cut the doors tomorrow)

Fixed the nesting boxes, perches and put handles on my trays.

 

 

Now to find some hens for my cocks!!
