Posted October 10, 201014 yr one of my hens is sitting on a clutch of eggs and ive noticed that shes moulting a bit. my father reckons that sometimes they do when breeding just wondering if this is normal?
October 10, 201014 yr They would only moult if put down to breeding at the wrong time. A female may pull some of her feathers out to keep warmer contact with her eggs and babies. Perhaps if you post a photo we can determine which it is Moulting or pulling feathers

October 10, 201014 yr Chest feathers would be related to egglaying and nesting. Head feathers above the cere is moulting. She may not want to see the raising of chicks all the way through if she is moulting. Edited October 10, 201014 yr by KAZ
