Posted October 7, 201014 yr Hi everyone I was wondering if sombody could help Im wanting to breed my budgies I have looked and looked on the net about how to breed them properlly and I get conflicting advice I went to the pet shop today to ask about breeding boxs and all that and the girl had no idea what to tell me so I got a breeding box and nesting material anyway. I just don't know were to start with it all I don't want to do the wrong thing by my birds I know it sounds silly but I really don't know were to start?? If some one could give me advice on what to do and were to start that would be great Thanks very much
October 7, 201014 yr How old are your birds ? Do you know their background or history ? What colour are their ceres ? Do you have a breeding cage ? How big is the cage and what style ? Where will you set them up for breeding ? Prior to breeding have you established many many months of good and varied diet including vegies ? ***Note of advice.......dont ask pet stores for any advice and never be prepared to believe what they tell you

There ceres well billys is a deep blue and sillys is brown and I read that adult female budgies have brwon ceres and young ones have a blueish purple im not sure how true this is?? I havent got a breeding cage I would like to get one though if its better than putting a breeding box in there normal cage. The cage they are in is big enough for the 2 of them but problly not big enough to put a breeding box in there. This might be a silly quistion but is the breeding cages big enough? they looka bit small for the both of them. I will either have them downstairs as thats were they stay normally or put them in the spare room upstairs I don't know which one would be better? And as for there food I do give them apples and carrot but they arent very interested in it. I used to give buddy my old budgie who passed away a while ago frozen peas he would go stupid for them but thats getting off topic talking about him so thats about it really. October 7, 201014 yr Hi Paigey, Its great to see that you are trying to get advice before you go headlong into breeding them. Would it be possible to get in contact with your boyfriends mums friend who breeds budgies to ask for help in setting up the cage and finding out how old silly is? Pictures of your cage or measurements of it would be great, that way we could help you position the perches and nestbox, if the cage is a good size for them to breed in... I would also recommend reading this thread - it can help you decide if you are ready to breed or not. There are a lot of articles in the FAQ section under Breeding. It would be a good idea to go through those as well... Keep enjoying your budgies Edited October 7, 201014 yr by JimmyBanks
