Posted October 6, 201014 yr Hi all.. Quick recap on my last topic... Hen was in avairy (alone with cock). Laid 5 eggs. Cock escaped . Hen continued to sit on eggs. 3 hatched. 2 died :-( . So i was left with my one little baby . Who i am crazy about. He is 30days today . This morning i went out and he was on the avairy floor huddled in the corner mum was flying around as she usually does as of lately she saw me and flew into her box and i found him on the floor.. Cuddled him as i do every day and then put him back in the box. I know at this stage they can leave the nest and dad will feed them? But he doesnt have a dad :-( . Can i move them into a normal cage and put an icecream container on the floor for baby? Will mum still feed him if i put h er in there with him?? TIA
October 6, 201014 yr Changing them into a new cage might result in no feeding for the baby. You need to find out if he is being fed now anyway. How about you put some budgie seed into the nestbox now so he learns to eat. Read this http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=22446
October 7, 201014 yr I hope on not over-stepping the mark here, but I think these two FAQ's will also be quite helpful: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...&artlang=en http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...&artlang=en Kaz - not meaning to hijack this thread, but just on the FAQ's - all the photos under the 'Standard Requirement....' for each variety under 'Budgie Mutations' are gone. I was wondering if this could be updated, as there are many birds that may be visually similar, but their cheek patches, feet colour, other differences etc. help to indicate what variety of budgie they are. I believe it's very useful for a beginner, such as myself.

October 7, 201014 yr Author Thanks KAZ . I have had seed in the box since day 1. ?? Every time i check on him his crop is full of, full seed? ETA- I wouldn't be so worried if he was in a breeding cabinet like the other birds. But originally i was going to do colony breeding but decided not to went to remove the boxes and she had already laid. So the fall from the nest box is about 1.8mtrs so thats also what is worrying me? Edited October 7, 201014 yr by LisaM

Kindie cages are used for breeding cage to kindie cage before out into an aviary. You may not need a kindie cage
October 7, 201014 yr Author Oh okay so i just keep popping him back in the box? or should i put a container on the floor for him?
October 7, 201014 yr Well if its the only chick and you are sure its fully feathered and past 4-5 weeks of age.............remove the nestbox. make sure there is food and water at ground level. Is it warm weather where you are or freezing nights ? If cold that changes all advice I just gave you. If cold weather............you have nothing to lose by putting them both in a cage together and having food at ground level in the cage for the chick. Observe closely.
October 7, 201014 yr Author I'ts cold some nights so i think ild rather be safe than sorry Definetly 30days. Not fully feathered still has some down

October 7, 201014 yr Then chick looks three weeks not four. Has this chick suffered from feather plucking?NO. Feather plucking would show on head and wing butts. This chick hasnt been feather plucked.
