Posted October 3, 201014 yr I have read a few of the colouring topics on colours for beginners, the great YFsymposium etc and at this early stage find it all a bit to hard to digest so as I know the colours of the parents can someone help me by naming exactly what colour the babies are: I got the hen and cock from an aviary with all green varieties and blue budgies. Hen-light green, has blue tail Cock-YF Cobalt, has blue tail All the babies have purple cheek patches and blue tails Here are some pics Budgie 1(green one) is he a YF Cobalt as cock is? Budgie 2-is this a Cobalt? have found over the weeks that he has purply tinge around his neck and above his tail Budgie3- is she a light green hen as the hen? she has alot of yellow on her cap and extending down the back into her wings
October 3, 201014 yr the green babies are green not yellow face. as SC states the third is Opaline (meaning the body colour appears on the wings) your blue baby appear cobalt to me
October 3, 201014 yr Green one at the top is a normal light green. Blue one is a normal cobalt. Last bird is a dark green opaline. No yellowfaces there I'm sorry.
October 3, 201014 yr Not necessarily S_C. Depends what the parents were. If both were green/blue then there is a chance that the green babies could have 2 green genes.
October 4, 201014 yr Actually, the green ones are split for blue OR yf2. The yf2 cock must be single factor, to have produced blue chicks. so he could have given either one to the green chicks. You won't know unless you breed them when they grow up.
