Posted October 1, 201014 yr We have just bred our first baby budgie. It is now 3 weeks old and growing well but we are worried because it is constantly lying on its side and doesn't sit up. Also, its wings are stretched out back behind its body. The wings can go into the normal position if I hold them. Its as if the Mum is constantly sitting on the baby and keeping it flat. Is this a common problem? If so, what should we do?
October 1, 201014 yr Total lack of calcium and possibly nutrients to the baby.......at three weeks it should be almost fully feathered, able to walk around the nestbox and flap its wings learning to fly before it leaves in one week. What preparation did you do with regard to parental feeding and supplements to the parents before breeding them and during the raising of chicks ............chick ? why only one ? How old are the parents ? Edited October 1, 201014 yr by KAZ
October 1, 201014 yr What are it's legs like? If it is laying down all the time, I am thinking it might have leg problems
October 1, 201014 yr Are its legs splayed maybe? I had a splayed leg chick that was leaning on one side, kind of like you mentioned. I gave it a drop of calcivet in the beak, and I put a makeup sponge on its legs for the spalyed part.
