September 28, 201014 yr Author Thanks Kaz and GB. Yes, I was thinking variety over all. Ideally, if I had some good birds to put with the fallows for splits next year, I would have. I read somewhere the best fallows come from split/split pairings. Next year I will try cock from pair #1 to hen pair #3

October 5, 201014 yr Author Pair #1 have 2 eggs *woohoo* but first one laid is the giant football shaped one. Fingers crossed for some fertility
October 5, 201014 yr Nice fallows Rach!! Love your cock from pair #4. Being a fallow nut, I will be following your progress with anticipation and I wish you all the luck in the world! I have a split to split pairing too, but they are both, unfortunately quite small birds. I intend on hand taming any babies that are not visual fallows and selling them as pets, and only keeping the visuals from that pairing. From my split fallow cock to my fallow hen, the first two babies are splits, but their third is fallow. I am so excited about my first "real" season of breeding fallows and the results of what compares to what (split to split etc) and I am really looking forward to your results too. Best of luck with it all!
October 5, 201014 yr Nice!! Looks like a double yolker? Somtimes maiden hens just lay really big long eggs for the first time. It may be a double yolker, most likley not as they are more circle shaped. Look nice Rach! She will settle soon hopefully.
October 5, 201014 yr Author Thanks Sunnie and Ratzy. The cock #4 is my favorite too I'd be happy to get some splits to breed next year and visuals will be a bonus. Sunnie, your babies look great. Some visuals too, can't wait to see them feather up. I'll leave the giant egg (double yolker??) and see if its fertile in a few days
October 13, 201014 yr Author I'm loving the new look BBC Quick update: Pair #1- 5 eggs minus 1, 2 fertile so far. The big egg that was laid first was infertile. This is what was inside. What do you think? Pair #2- 3 eggs Pair #3- 3 eggs Pair #4- 2 eggs minus 1 broken (punctured*spelling*)
October 19, 201014 yr I can't wait to see what the babies look like Rachelm Do double-yoker eggs survive till hatching? Is it like twins?
October 19, 201014 yr Author I can't wait to see what the babies look like Rachelm Do double-yoker eggs survive till hatching? Is it like twins? Thanks Maddy, I'm looking forward to seeing babies too. I'm not entirely sure on the statistics of double yolkers surviving to hatch but it is possible to have twins from one egg. Kaz's twins: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=14683&st=0&p=171045&hl=twin&fromsearch=1entry171045

October 19, 201014 yr Author Lovely birds Rach best of luck with them you should have little jelly beans by now Thank you Splat. There's a few fertile ones there due to hatch at the end of the week. I am really hoping they do hatch because I'm having DIS and hard shell issues at the moment.

I am really hoping they do hatch because I'm having DIS and hard shell issues at the moment. i had hard shell issues when i began aparently you spray the hen lightly if shes out nest or just mist eggs with your breath when you look in i prefer second option just huff on them if you know what i mean just once the moisture will help
October 21, 201014 yr Author Thank you GB. I have had a lot of DIS and 7 that died pipping because they got stuck in the hard shell Thanks for the advice, I have been putting a few drops of water on the eggs due to hatch and when I checked the nest boxes yesterday morning two little pinkies had hatched, I was so happy I could have cried. Pair #1- 5 eggs laid, 3 fertile due to hatch shortly Pair #2- 6 eggs, 4 fertile so far Pair #3- 7 eggs, 3 fertile so far Pair #4- 5 eggs, 2 punctured(removed), none showing fertile yet.

October 27, 201014 yr Author Pair #1 Fallow hen and split fallow cock. Unfortunately their 3 fertile eggs were all dead in shell. Any idea's for the cause of this little one? http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/rachelm156/babies%202010/IMG_8857.jpg http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/rachelm156/babies%202010/IMG_8860.jpg The nestbox has been removed for this pair and also pair #4, all eggs were clear. I'm going to rest them for a couple of weeks and then put them in the aviary until next year. I've got a chick that's 21 days old today, with a strange wing. http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/rachelm156/babies%202010/IMG_8865-Copy.jpg
October 27, 201014 yr Dead in shell is often caused by a lack of humidity, you might try spraying a fine mist {water] arround the outside of nests where eggs are due to hatch. I know some people spray the eggs but I'm not a fan of that. Cheers Clearwing
