Posted September 25, 201014 yr Hi everyone. Just a couple weeks ago I filled 3 of my cabinets with more pairs. They all currently have eggs, and I wish to follow their journey through this journal. Pair 1: Normal Light Green Cock (maybe/cinnamon) X Cinnamon Light Green I choose this pair because the cock is a quite long bird, with great facial features. The hen is quite average, she pulls her head but she is a nice neat bird, with a bit of buff in the body. She is quite fine-feathered. The cock has moulted since that picture. Blue ring bird to green ring. EGGS: 7 (the hen is from forum member Liv, I think she said she has been known to go up to 9) Pair 2: Light Green Opaline Spangle X Grey-Green Cinnamon Opaline Hen I choose this pair because both birds are some of my top birds, and both quite large. I know they look very heavy, but I just want some larger birds so I can put them back to some of my neater smaller birds later on. Don't even comment on what I was thinking with thier colouring. The hen is actually quite nice, picture doesnt show it. EGGS: 4 (still going) Pair 3: YF Sky Blue Cinnamon Cock X YF Grey Cinnamon Hen This pair is quite nice, the cock is one of my favourites. This is a blood pairing as much as a visual pairing. I like the cocks blow and skull, and the hen is a bit larger in the body. Both birds taper nicley at the perch, and have neat wings. I want to use their chicks in my cinnamon YF line. I know I will be getting DF YF's, but I plan on putting a blue yf hen back to a blue cinnamon cock I have, if I can get one. The hen with cock from pair one is first picture I will see if I can get a better picture of her
September 26, 201014 yr Author Same here I am hoping the hen will get me some more chicks, She has bred me 5 of my 20 or so chicks this season ( horrible I know. First year though) I am about to go and candle the eggs EDIT: Pair 1 - 3 of the eggs are quite dark already they are nice solid pearly white visually , another two have strong veins. The other two eggs are clear, or just to young to tell Pair 2 - Maybe veins in 2 of the eggs... other two are clear still. Once again, to young to tell probably. Pair 3 - (Forgot to mention they are on 3 eggs) One egg is maybe fertile, other two to young to tell. Edited September 26, 201014 yr by Squeak_Crumble
September 27, 201014 yr Looking good Squeak. I like how you have explained your pairings. Looking forward to seeing your results.
September 30, 201014 yr Author Wow. I definetley did not think that 25 + days have passed since I put the birds in. I didn't record the date I but them in. But. I HAVE A PINKY! In nest one. Mum is super feeder, Dad is new to it though and he was looking a little rough with the chick, tucking it under alot etc. The hen will quickly put him in place, I know that. I will keep an eye on it though. Not sure of hatching, I didn't check nest last night or this morning as I was out late, but of the 7 eggs, I think 6 looked fertile! I went out to candle them and little bub was there. So I didn't get a proper look. Pair 2 looks like a clutch of clear She stopped laying at 4. Pair 3 looks like 3 out of 5 fertile. I may foster some of pair ones into pair 2s nest, if she looks like having a big clutch.
September 30, 201014 yr Congrats on your beanie Pity pair 2 are clear so far, but if they foster, maybe they might get some babies in their 2nd round. It sometimes happens
October 4, 201014 yr Author Congrats on your beanie Pity pair 2 are clear so far, but if they foster, maybe they might get some babies in their 2nd round. It sometimes happens I got another chick on the 2nd, and I am expecting one today Pictures soon, chicks arte looking fed and healthy!
October 4, 201014 yr Author No more pinkies today. There appears to be one fertile egg (closest top right to oldest chick) so maybe that was the one that was meant to hatch today.

October 10, 201014 yr Author Up to 5 I fostered the two youngest out to the hen in Pair 5 , and she as been feeding them happily. The youngest was born today, so she ahs a 2 and 0 day old chick. All chicks have been born on their days. The youngest two were being trampled on by their siblings (who are getting quite big ) Her eggs are past due date BUT they are not showing DIS yet, as far as I can tell.

I had 2 chicks, break, then 4 chicks. All 2 days apart. They currently have their 3 oldest chicks in her nest. I am not sure about the youngest, has an empty crop and has had for the last hour. I have taken the two older chicks out for handling, and also to encourage mum to feed. Pair 2: They have 3 chicks form pair one. And, better news is..... THEY HAVE ONE OF THEIR OWN! The other eggs still are not looking DIS. If she has more chicks, I will be forced to foster her foster chicks back to original parents. The pair's one solo chick of their own is the same age as the youngest foster.
October 14, 201014 yr Good to hear you have lots of healthy pinkies S_C How's pair #3 going, I love your YF cock.
October 14, 201014 yr Author Good to hear you have lots of healthy pinkies S_C How's pair #3 going, I love your YF cock. Woops forgot to mention. Pair 2 was taken out because of clutch of 4 clear eggs. So now pair three has been renamed pair 2 . I am wishing I left pair 2 in now, but I was wanitng the cage for another promising pair. I am also glad for the pinkies I havent been getting as much fertility/chick rate because of only running 4 boxes in outdoor weather. BUT now weather is warming up, I am getting more fertility and I got another 2 cages, so I will be getting quite a few chicks. Edited October 14, 201014 yr by Squeak_Crumble
October 15, 201014 yr Author Two older chicks: Older is on right. I am thinking oldest is maybe cock, younger is hen. They have got to the stage were they like to be girafee's, and peek around 4 younger chicks: I am thinking the older two are hens. I will need to wait and see. Two older foster chicks on top Two twin chicks. I am a little miffed, the YF cinnamon one is smaller then the other chick. BUT I suppose if one hatched early in the day and another later on, there could be a bit of difference. Foster chick left, YF parented chick right.
October 24, 201014 yr Author Hm. Well the youngest plum eyed chick died two days ago. It's crop was full with lot's of air, and it was a very slow grower. I then woke this morning to find the first plum eyed chick dead. If that wasn't bad enough, the youngest chick fostered from the green parents died as well! 3 deaths from the same nest. So now, the green pair has all 5 of their chicks. I am thoroughly cleaning out the YF's nestbox, then giving them a few days rest before trying out another round in a bigger nestbox (they are in one of my smaller cages)
