Posted September 18, 201014 yr I only just noticed this on one of my baby spangle greywing babies..because the little fella got out of the kindie cage and was flying around the birdroom. I caught him by the window at the kitchen sink area and went to put him back but noticed lower abdomen on one side of the budgie has skyblue feathers as well as his green body colour feathers. Is it one of those baby feather situations ? or something else ? Edited February 2, 201114 yr by **KAZ**
September 18, 201014 yr I have had that Kaz ,he must be out of a blue bird, it will go green when he moults unless he is an halfsider But nearlt all my birds out of cobalts mainly have a lot of vibrant blue from tummy down , some in patches, it seems to moult out .
September 18, 201014 yr Author I think it will either moult out, or show that he is split blue it doesnt have to show he is split blue because all of them will be split blue anyway.

Yes I know that, but I find some of my green birds that are split blue show blue feathers around vent/rump/ lower chest area. Or even bleeding in the wings.

Well, in this case you could be right mate I was told on the weekend that its one of those cases where it does say its split blue. I was also told when it looks like that it wont moult out or change with a moult and makes the birds unshowable too. I am not worried about showing it as its a spangle greywing and just breeding stock Edited September 21, 201014 yr by KAZ
December 30, 201014 yr Is that greygreen I see? To have greygreen AND blue it must surely be some sort of half sider?

December 31, 201014 yr Yeah blue not grey is quite interesting. Obviously some little genetic "glitch" there.
December 31, 201014 yr No, rainbows are yellowface (any) + clearwing + opaline + blue (any, but generally sky blue is considered the most vibrant colour, although arguably visual violets are better they are less commonly seen).
December 31, 201014 yr I know that they are a mix of many things, but the fact i was pointing out was that the Dilute gene (greywings, clearwings and dilutes) are used in the breeding of them, maybe this was how Rainbows were first discovered and then mixed in with the other types to create more interesting birds. January 11, 201114 yr Pied? I know it's not a usual pied pattern but maybe it's a spontaneous mutation. I have had greygreen spangles with a bright yellow feather or two on the body and no known pied background.
January 11, 201114 yr Very interesting bird. On his right side, the white feathers between his cheek patch and beak are they abnormally coloured also? And are the blue feathers only on his right side? Edited January 11, 201114 yr by rachelm

February 1, 201114 yr Author Caught this budgie up today and all blue feathers are on its left side of its body, mask and head. Will take more photos tomorrow Edited February 1, 201114 yr by **KAZ**
February 2, 201114 yr Author so it is a halfsider then ??? I dunno GB. But any feathers that are blue or white and where they shouldnt be are all on the birds left side. He is just coming through a moult so some of the blue feathers arent fully grown back in yet. Right side Left side Edited February 2, 201114 yr by **KAZ**
