Time for an Update on birdroom.

Well it is basically finished now as you all know I am breeding in it.

The best thing is it is mouse proof, well so far anyway.

 

I have 9 wire breeding cages and 2 wire holding cages on one wall.

 

6 white board breeding cages on the back wall

 

12 wooden breeding cages on the other side wall with so far a baby cage on top, another double

breeding/holding cage will go up there soon. and there are 2 large holding/breeding nearest the window.

 

The best news is today Greg bought me a fluo light for the birdroom because I did his tax for him

and that was my payment and I didn't even ask for it. so that's great.

I haven't put the light up yet maybe tomorrow.

Wednesday I am buying the lino for my birdroom but won't be putting it down until the breeding is finished,

but I found one I like so i am grabbing it why it is in stock.

I know I have already posted these photos but I thought I would put them on here to for the finish product.

Thank you Daz, AND I have done nearly all of it by myself.

I like the birdroom a lot but I would love one the size of yours, it would be lovely.

But mine is a huge improvement than what I had and it is very worker friendly, I have room to move now lol.

After the breeding season I will be making some improvements.

 

I want to try and fill in any gaps above cages so to stop the dust collecting. Filling in the bottom stands and putting lino on the floor.

Here is my fluo light, put it up by myself and it was a bit difficult but I managed.

Greg is going to help me do the veranda soon.

The little kitchen is only a couple of feet from the birdroom, it is in the first part of the old one.

Why! don't breeders have breeding rooms for their birds there.

I just love my new bird room and little kitchen. Everything is so much easier now.

I bought the lino for my birdroom yesterday but need to wait for the birds to stop breeding to lay it, so I quess

that won't be until November.

Took some more photos of my little kitchen, done a little more to it.

 

Put a row of hooks up for cups etc, going to put another one on the right hand side when I find time

I put a shelf up for the hospital cage, notice The kettle and food processor, I even have tea bags out there. lol. I have a toaster and iron too which I both use, I won them at a show. I only use the iron when building for the melamine stripping.lol

Here I am boiling eggs for my soft food, lol I sneaked the eggs out and bought the saucepan at from the op shop.

I have one of those portable barbeques, works a dream.

I went to the tip a couple of weeks ago with Greg and I couldn't believe my luck, a lovely small square plastic green

out door table and a chair, the chair is missing the cushion but I don't need it because it is very comfortable teh way it is. The guy at the tip was using it in the mornings, lol I had the pry it from him. lol. It was free and in great condition, our tip recylces thing s like these.

Thanks John. As for the Vetafam soluvite D Breeder, you are better off getting the breeder because it is much more economical. You use 1 gram to a litre of water, where is the one that is not the breeder one is 4 grams to a litre of water and it is gone in no time. The Breeder is quite expensive but I went halves with mine with another breeder.

John I forgot to mention that I also put Vetafarm Tracemine with the soluvite D Breeder along with calcivet. I only put the calcivet in 3 days a week.

I thought I would up date what I am up to with my birdroom Kitchen etc.

At this stage I can't do much more to the new birdroom but the veranda

 

But I have decided to try and mouse proof my old birdroom and baby aviary.

I am keen to put my babies in there but I really want to make sure I can stop the mice

from getting in. Not get any mice lately anyway but just incase.

 

Today I patched a few bits and pieces but the main problem is the roof. there is at least

a half inch gap that i have to try and fill.

I have decided to make the old birdroom which is 6ft wide and 11 ft long into 2 aviaries for

my show teams plus a little area for muck around breeding with troubled birds or for separating

new birds when needed.

My plan is to make 2 4ft wide 6 ft long aviaries. So that will give me 3 aviaries out there which

will be classed as indoor aviaries.

after the aviaries I will have 3 feet left to put some breeding or holding cages, something like

a bank of 6 cages, (3 rows of double cages).

 

Anyway I will update as I progress.

For that gap you mentioned, how about stuffing in steel wool wire?

 

In the latest aviary we built we mouse proofed it with the small gauge mouse and snake proof square mesh but what I did discover lately is the little micies were running up the walls and then under the undulating corrugated iron roof. So we bought up on the cheapo wire wool pads (without the soap!) and stuffed it into the gaps. Problem solvered

Thanks Renee, I would be lost without my sink now, I use it all the time.

 

I have use the steel wool before and the little so and so's pulled it out. But I will give it another go, when

I used it last time it was in gaps where the steel meets the cement. Maybe it is harder for them to pull it out on the roof.

But that is where they are getting because the neigbours land has a rotten tree that is right next to my birdroom and the mice run up that and on the roof, well that is what I think anyway.

The problem is mainly that the whole length of the ole bird room is built up against Gregs garage

and nothing is attached to the Garage itself and I am not allowed to put one nail hole in his precious

garage. Anyway the whole structure has moved and now there is at least and inch or more gap. The sparrows even get in that way and get out that way again unbelievable.

Today when patching a few bits and pieces looking around I just can't believe how dodgy the whole thing is, gaps and wholes everywhere.

I am going to replace the the wire on the baby aviary with mouse proof wire and the new ones will be mouse proof wire too.

I am also pulling down a bit of the wall where the dodgie door is and fix all that.

Good idea bout the steel wool.

Today I worked on my old bird room, I took some photos of the dodgy work Greg did LOL plus my dodgy work trying to mouse proof it.

These 3 photos are the end part where I use to breed. I plan on making this area into 2 small aviaries and a holding area for birds if I can mouse proof it. You can see the gap between the Garage wall and the roof. Now I am not aloud to put one screw or nail into that garage so it makes it very hard trying to mouse proof it. That gap is smaller because you can see I have screwed some angle aluminum there already but need to do more yet.

This is as you work in too but the out side door, really bad. I plan on ripping the dumb door right out and make a decent new frame and door.

 

This is the aviary, i have tried to mouse proof it but I have new plans now so I am going tear off the wire I put there and use the angle stuff there.

 

 

 

 

 

 

You can see my problem. That gap is right along the whole 30 feet of the birdroom aviary. Even sparrows have been getting lately, Grge reckons it has moved but he just didn't do it right in the first place.

I have to fix it because I am desperate to use the aviary.

 

More update later

This is what I have done so far.

Put mouse proof wire on both doors that lead into aviary and the aluminum along the sides of the doors where there were gaps.

 

 

 

and this bit here was a huge ugly area that was just awful, I have made it made better now buy filling in and painting etc

 

This is the entrance to the aviary form the birdroom, you have to step over the steel that has been cut out, well I put the aluminum on there on the gaps the tin left.
