The breeder told me he is eating seed and to put the seed on the ground in the cage, i did that but he is not eating when he is the cage only when he is outside... I put him seeds outside the cage on the floor and he eats, i mean i'm happy that he eats but if later he wont eat from the cage and he only will eat from outside, i'm worried Here's what I think: The important thing is to make sure he eats enough. So if he will eat outside of the cage, do that several times a day to keep up his strength. Eventually as he gets older and more used to his cage, I'm sure he will learn to eat in there, too. In the mean time, if you're the one feeding him when he's out of his cage, he will see you as his source of food, and it will help him bond with you all the more. Also, I agree with Squeak, he was probably sold too young. In one of your posts you said the breeder took him straight out of the box to sell to you. He wasn't ready to leave his nest or his parents. They need a week or two after they come out of the nest box on their own to learn how to feed themselves. At this age, he is still very dependant on his parents. And since I'm already writing here, I will answer your question from your other thread about his freaking out in his cage. Think about it, he had never left his nest box before, so he has no idea what in the world a "cage" is. He will get used to it eventually, but he would probably be happier if you could give him a small box-like home inside of the cage to hide in. Something we use a lot for newly fledged chicks is an ice cream container turned upside down on the cage floor, with a small hole cut out of it for a door. Here is a photo of the one I used, as an example: He might feel more secure if he can hide in something like that. Just make sure you take him out of it often enough to feed him and give him a cuddle. He's also never been alone before, he would have been used to cuddling up to his nest mates.
September 6, 201014 yr You could hang millet near where he perches, or continue to feed him outside, and hope that he eventually learns to eat inside as well. Early days yet.
September 6, 201014 yr Author I see he's fine now, if he will do that again i will put a little icecream box and won't let him out when i'm not there, last night i took him and put him on my chest to talk with him, he was so nice, he did not fly away he stayed for a few mins when i talked a bit with him and acted really nice. Thank you for the advices Edited September 6, 201014 yr by Adi
