Murphy's Law Of Budgie Breeding

Featured Replies

confession time hey

lol

well i have opened uncountable eggs and killed many babys :D due to eggs not arriving on time and turning black

i have learn t to pretend to trick myself buy recording lay late about 4 days after real date in-till i actually put into records of course this has saved many chicks

i have fallen and grabbed breeding cage while looking at eggs and broken half clutch of eggs twice now as my leg has given way :D

i have sold my best cock thinking he was **** due to seeing what he breed with a really good bird

then put him to a not so good bird but from a great stud with good foundation line but sold him before chicks hatched expecting **** :( and breed my two best hens this year

i left door of my holding cage open and let out my first show quality cock i ever brought (the grey violet from you splat ) i didnt get to breed him :(

i forgot to give my first breeding birds seed in one of the cages and almost killed him due to i had to greys next to each other and children distracting me to ask questions

2 days almost with no food

i never put two same colour cocks next to each other now

sent somebirds to people with mild scaly face (not my birds ) but failed to recognize they had it after looking over them fully

brought 7 sick birds of breeder all of which died with in the month :( lucky for quarantine (and no i didnt say anything )

left a cup of water in my room and dround a baby i was tamming as it went to drink from it whilst i was out of room for one minit then i came in looking for it didnt see it till i wanted a drink

also almost killed my daughters pet bird by leaving it out and it flew into a vase couldnt get out

i thought of looking in it very last and just in time :(

im so not perfect

took an egg out of nest thinking was infertile sat it on table for like 5 mins then decided to check on more time before tossing it

it had a tinny heart beat no blood vessals just heat beat

put back under hen but id chilled it it was dead next day :{ this was three months ago about now

6. A dark stained egg that appeared a dead in shell chick was about to be tossed in the bin, but I opened it before throwing out, to find the chick was alive and fine inside........till I opened it and killed it

Done this one before. I dont open eggs now, I wait til well past due and then just toss them.

Put babies into the nursery aviary and thought they were all settled as I went to leave and of course, babies being babies, one took off straight out the door as I was leaving. I ALWAYS leave the box in the aviary now and let the babies let themselves out and leave them for a good half hour or more before I attempt to retrieve the box.

I had a hen that had a single chick in nest, and I went out there at night to find the chick died of yellow belly. One egg was in the nest still though, but it was way past it's due date.

I removed the hen and cock and put them in a holding cage overnight to be released in the morning. Turns out that the egg pipped overnight. I numbered my eggs, 1-7 (5 infertile so they were chucked) . I thought it was egg one, way past due date but it turned out it was egg 7. Chick inside died because of a cold nest and no mum.

I'm feeling very upset right now, so I had to find this thread so I could vent. :(

I just now was checking chicks in a nest, and I didn't realize that the youngest one was stuck to the one I was holding, and it dropped to the floor. It's not dead yet, but I don't see how it can survive.:( I feel just terrible!

I'm really kicking myself, because this is a situation I've always been worried about, so I should have known better, but I guess I got lax.

It does help a little bit to read over what you guys have done, and to remind myself that everyone makes mistakes, but I'm still sad. I've just got a little bit of hope, because Splat said she dropped one of hers and it lived. But I saw mine swell up and it's leg got stiff, so I expect I'll find it dead on the next check. Poor baby, and all my fault! :(
