Egg Hatches Early

Hey all, I went out to the breeding this arvo for my usual routine check, well the nest where my yellow Df spangle Cock and lt green cinnamon spangle hen (half brother/half sister) are, there were only 2 fertile eggs in this nest and I fostered 3 or 4 Of my iffy grey hens eggs. Well 2 of the grey hens eggs have hatched and 1 of the pair above hatched yesterday.

well on my check I notice an egg with a huge hole in it and I could see that the chick was breathing so I thought I will help it so I carefully started chipping away but there was a little bit of blood and it looked like the membrane or the air sac or what ever it's called only just broke so it was still wet and sticky sort of. Anyway there was a bit of blood on the belly button part.

I don't think It was due to hatch untill tomorrow. I actually think the hen put the hole in it as the head of the chick was still buired in the egg , no where hear the hole.

I put the chick in the nest and this was at 4 oclock. It was still alive at 5.30, so I am hoping it makes it.

Thought I would share this with you all.

I really want this chick as this is my next shield winner :D that will get me to the Nationals :) I wish :) But you never know, if there were any pairs that would do it for me it would be this pair.

Still alive but I notice he doesn't have much milk in his crop but he is wriggling everywhere and qurking for a feed so I will see how he goes, the hen is an excellent mother.

Here he is the little one on the left, you can only see his head. Actually he laying on his back with his beak open saying "Feed me mum"

:) His crop is full so that is a good sign and he is a little fighter

Yay :) Always love to hear about those good outcomes in risky situations!

You should enter it anyway. I think part of his appeal is that he's the only one in the crowd who's looking up at us. :)

just checked on my nest and this little chcik is thriving :) and I got a huge surprise, the last iffy hens egg just hatched.

I was picking up all the babies in this nest to see who needed ringing and I thought what a dead one, I could see pink flesh stuck to an egg

and my heart sank but further investagation proved to a chicks head sticking out a hole in the egg, so I was delighted, I help a little chipping away the shell till it kicked itself out. So cool. I wish I had my camera with me BUT I didn't as usual. :)

I think I have 36 new little chicks now and more to hatch.

I have 7 fertile eggs in my grey opaline hen from the in may at Northcote and she is with Geoffs yellow face cinnamon cock which I think is Sheppard breeding :) . Not impressed over the cinnamon but happy about the yellow face :)

7 eggs fertile bound to get a yellow face.. I HOPE....
