Wardrobe conversion as cage?

Featured Replies

So I'm rescuing a pair of budgies from a friend who, well, let's just say they'll be fed better at my house. I hate the little wire cages, I want to give them a bit of room to play. Ikea has a wood and polpropylene wardrobe measuring 35 wide, 18 deep, and 70 high. I'm going to remove a lot of the poly siding and replace it with horizontal, closely spaced wire, though I'll probably leave the back piece on to protect my wall, with wire over it. I'll cover the wire mesh on the outside with wooden moulding so the birds can't get caught when outside. Honestly, they'll be cage birds for about 3-4 months until they get settled, they've been ignored in an outside aviary for a good bit of time. I'll open up one whole side for access, and there's a spot where I can make a small door to easily clean the bottom of the cage. I know cages aren't supposed to be tall, but, well, I love the thought of this wardrobe conversion, it'd be so much nice than a little wire cage.

thanks for your time!!

future budgie freak,

Sounds like you have set yurself a task there, but I do like the sounds of it! Someone else has done a cupboard conversion for a cage on here, if I find the post i will link it for you. Im just wondering, if it would be feasable to put the wardrobe on its side? That way they could have great fun flying across from side to side!

Definately thanks!!! I'm glad someone else had the idea first and it worked. I hadn't thought to add so many ladders - newbie mistake.

I appreciate the link!
