New To Forum And 2 Baby Budgies

Hi

I'm new to posting, but have been reading these forums for several years. Having lost our beautiful budgie Joey a few weeks ago we couldn't handle the quiet any more, so yesterday we came home with two little budgies. They are very sweet and settling in well. However we wondered if you could tell us if Charlie (yellow) is a girl or a boy. Harry (green) really looks like a boy, but in different light Charlie's cere looks pink, brown or pale blue. In this photo it looks blue, but you are the experts so we thougth we would ask! We also wondered if you could tell us their types. We were so excited about getting them we didn't ask!

We are just getting them used to being in our home and have a beautiful big cage coming this week, but so far so good! :)

changed photo to link. It is over the size limit of 640x480.

I think the green is female, the df spangle ( yellow ) is male.

OH! that wasn't what I was expecting, shows how much I know then :) . Thanks so much for replying, Charlie (yellow) is certainly the bravest and Harry follows..

If a cere has any white on it including white with blue it is female :) The green seems to have white with the blue on the cere ?? so if so that would make it a female.

I think the green is female, the df spangle ( yellow ) is male.

The yellow bird is NOT a DF spangle............it has wing markings and colour on the body. It may be a dilute. The green budgie is whats called a NORMAL GREEN.

I was going to say it wasn't a DF when I saw it. I thought it was possibly a dilute or greywing (or something similar haha :D ) can't quite tell without seeing proper picture.

In regards to the sexes at first glance I was going to say both female, but looking at the yellow one, that could be male. Can you get close ups of the ceres for us? Front on pictures? :) They are very cute

I agree with Finnie, they both look male, but front on pics (good luck) will help and use natural light with no flash.

Oops, sorry. I only had a brief glance at the picture.

Thanks everyone, will try and get a picture of each of them front on today. We are still settling them in so taking it gently with them and our camera is big and black, so will see what we can do. They are getting braver each day and can cope with my hand in the cage a bit without backing off now, so real progress!

I'm thinking both boys- no white on the cere that I can see!

And Charlie looks like either greywing or dilute.

They both look very nice! :laughter:

I agree with Finnie :D

Thank so much everyone. We were aiming for 2 boys, but it is good to know! They are just so cute and really building confidence each day now. They have even managed to play a tiny bit rather than just watch us, although they still have moments of keeping very still.

I will let you know how they get on as they grow, and will no doubt be back for help as time goes on :D
