Posted August 28, 201014 yr Our second longest paired Budgies are now breeding. She laid her first egg about a half hour ago. She is a cobalt blue and Ollie is a normal green budgie("the fluoro Budgie")lol. So back to the beginning of the cycle. Have started the Budgie starter and put in egg and biscuit and all the other stuff we are giving the first pair.
August 28, 201014 yr This is the hen This is the cock i am hoping that picture is old she looks very young
August 30, 201014 yr Author The Second egg was laid about a half hour ago. I was fixing spaghetti Bolognese and she was in her box. I went to call the family to dinner, noticed she was out. I checked the box and it was in the back corner. I reckon she'll nudge it to the middle as she did the first one.
September 1, 201014 yr Author okay, egg number three tonight. I think she might be setting now, as she is spending less and less time out of the box, although she did the same thing when the first egg was laid.
September 5, 201014 yr Author The egg count is 5 now, she laid one on Friday and tonight. Back to egg hatching watch lol. We are projecting the first egg to hatch on the 18th.
September 9, 201014 yr Author We checked into the nesting box earlier. She has laid to date 7 :thankyou: eggs. A quick candling of the eggs in the nest, show five fertile, and we are guessing the last two are still early to tell. We are hoping she don't lay past eight as we have no foster parents, I doubt hedwig would accept a chick, given her three are leaving the box now. So we are keeping our fingers crossed. She don't stay out of box long, as soon as we put it down, she was on her way down to it. She does not exit when I tap on the box, she is so different from Hedwig, I guess I have to throw out what I learned from Hedwig, regarding the hen lol. She came out of the cage and saw the baby budgie in the cage across the room and gave a "where did you come from" look, lol. Unless Ollie is split for something, I am guessing these will all be green split for blue.
September 20, 201014 yr Author YIKES, we have had three eggs hatch in less than 24 hours. They are all doing fine. Ollie will go inside the box and help Jessie. Sometimes he goes in and she comes out for a break. He is a dutiful father. Four eggs have yet to hatch and I have a feeling there will be another before the night is out.

You are like me, with 3 hatching all at once, and then 4 more to go (or 5 in my case). Ours will be growing at the same rates, we can compare notes.
September 20, 201014 yr Author The next set of three amigos(for the time being) are doing very well. I have to either bribe or negotiate with the hen so I can inspect the chicks. With Hedwig I just tapped on the box and she shot out the front, not this hen. I have been bitten quite a few times and screeched at. It seems like our current arrangment is that I can just look at them while she stands guard outside the hole peeping in. I moved one to make sure it was not dead, she stormed back in and bit my finger, rofl :rip: . Or now she has gotten slicker, when she comes out to stretch and do other things, Ollie will be in the box. Oh the fun of checking the nesting box every day.
September 23, 201014 yr Author Here are five out of seven hatched with one recently hatched. Both parents are sharing in the feeding of the chicks. I have noticed everytime one is hatching, the male is in the box for a bit of time. We have checked the box everytime that occurs and find a newly hatched chick. October 11, 201014 yr Author okay, a little update, sorry have been busy. apparently Ollie is split for Cinnamon as cinnamon has shown up on two of the chicks. They are obviously hens as Jessie is not a cinnamon. okay we are getting three blues, one cinnamon white, one cinnamon yellow. Two are TBD at a later date lol. Sounds like Ollie is hiding alot of hidden factors lol. I was figuring okay, we'll have seven greens half bright and half dark. Boy we are pleasantly suprised. For once though no Spangles . We'll put photos up very soon. Getting quite crowded in the box lol. I am nursing several bitten fingers from the hen. I had to retrieve Ollie from a bookcase as he got out of the box. I forgot to look to see if both were in the box. That's about all for now.
