Good to see our favourites of your budgies again :D Seems you have a melanistic still ?

i have 4, sadly i lost the only hen :D

Sorry to hear that

One of our members AmyS has a DF melanistic hen ( Mario Capasso bred ) bought from a Brasea auction. this hen is currently breeding. Does DF melanistics work the same way as DF Spangles in that all chicks will be melanistics ?

Hey chewy looks like my hen Jessie, lol. Same build and colours lol.

hehehe Chewy had an identical older sister too.

yes Kaz the gene acts just like the normal spangle gene. I had planned to breed her to her Minka to get some DF Melanistic Spangles.

Does this means the gene is getting acceptance in the show area?

No to the acceptance. I think its still just something some people play around with. If it werent for those people there wouldnt be any in a short space of time. Feel free to PM AmyS about hers as she is still learning and I feel sure you could help her in her understanding about them too :D

thanks for the suggestion Finnie, but Razzle was Dazzles sisters name (now passed on)

His mother is Reepi and Dad is Kazza if any other suggestions come to mind.

GORGEOUS BIRDS! :) Lovley flock of birds, I wish I had all of my pet-types still *sigh*

A couple names:

Makka ( also spelt Macka or Macca)

Sizzle

Azure (maybe a bit girly? )

Azzurro

Azul

They're absolutely gorgeous!

You must be proud.

I especially love Melon, Elle and Squeaker.

They're just beautiful.

I'd have trouble telling them all apart. c:

You have some beautiful birds :) Minka is a brilliant example of a Melanistic...assuming that one is Minka and not the Nephew haha :D

If I manage to breed a Melanistic hen out of my DF and you would like one, I will gladly help you out :)

I was wondering what the funny pattern on her wings was, I know it looked kinda familiar :) From when I read on here about them . Didn't wanna seem like an idiot asking though :) Melanistic spangle, Gorgeous.

Aw, I figured as I was typing it that might be the case, Razzle and Dazzle were too good for you not to have already used them. :D

Well, here's a good idea! The poor bird who lost his name deserves a new one, and I'm sure Macka deserves to have a bird named after him. Then they will both feel special! :):)

Thanks Zigzagoon - for some i have to use their leg rings to work them out, other i use throat spots

Thanks Amy - no plans to set up breeding again right now, have to manage out work and time to check all that needs checking when breeding. I put the names in order in the pictures so Minka is on the left and the Newphew is on the right, both are Melanistic spangles, the newphew hasn't lost as much of the markings on the wings as Minka has, but he is 2 years younger.
