What Mutation?

Featured Replies

Hi

Got a new bird recently, wondering what his mutation is and also what his approximate age would be? I know he's very young, that's for sure..Anyway, I was thinking he is a Dark Green DF Dominant Pied..however, the person I got him off told me they think he is Cinnamon, but I'm not very sure about that. His colour and markings are very dark for a Cinnamon, the only brown on him is the markings on his wings. The markings on his head and neck look normal.

So, Dark Green DF Dominant Pied? Cinnamon or no?

I would say he is also spangle. Other than that, I'm not very good at recognizing mutations.

I think he has opaline, too. :D

Does the person have his mother? She would have to be cinnamon, in order for him to have it. It's so hard to tell from those few wing markings he has, but if you think they are brown, then he probably is cinnamon.

Reason for edit: I forgot to say how pretty he is !!!!

in the pictures i can't see cinnamoin. She also doesn't appear to be df pied.

and i agree that she is spangle as well. She has bars all the way to her cere so around 2-3 months old.

She not he. And not df dom pied, and not cinnamon.

Didn't think he/she was Cinnamon but just wanted to make sure.

So Spangle for sure, Dark Green..Is it Opaline or not?

Oh, and if it isn't DF Dom Pied, what what kind of Pied? Certainly not Recessive Pied and probably not Clearflight either so Dominant Pied was all I could think of....

As to his/her gender, I'm still not sure as it appears more male in real life but still with a lot of paler blue/white around the nostrils than should be there if it were a male...

The cere appears whiteblue which is female.

There wont be white on a males cere. Dom pied and spangle in the mix. Not sure about the opaline.

Alright, so it's decided that the new bird is a female Dark Green SF Dominant Pied Spangle, about 2-3 months old?

Fine, if not Dark Green then what? (it would be more useful if you added what you think she IS rather than just saying what she's NOT)

Colour wise:

Yellow face type 2

Mauve

Spangle

Dominant Pied

Gender:

Hen

okay, so I say YF type 2 Mauve Dominant Pied Spangle.

The YF has washed throughout the body giving the appearance of Dark Green, but chest definitely indicates mauve. No opaline due to strong head markings. Spangle as the flights and tail are all clear (they would be white but the yellow wash through the body from the YF). Dominant Pied due to the irregular mauve body colouring. I think there is an iris ring, so not a recessive pied.

These are my thoughts.

I agree with Dave

i think their both spot on

only may be cobalt not mauve

as cobalt goes emerald green colour where mauve goes moldy green colour

I too would say yellow face as what Dave said and cobalt, the real mauve colour looks grey but have different colour throat spots tahn greys do and that is main way you can tell them about.
