Posted August 27, 201014 yr Many budgie owners find it hard to get enough vegetables into their budgies' diet. Here I have made a salad for Kipper and Kiddles and they loved it! :yuck: So, I thought I may share it with you. I didn't just get veggies, clean them and put them in, I did it in a way so that the birds will eat all of it and not leave bits out. Anyway, here is the recipe. INGREDENTS: Broccoli Cucumber Apple Carrot Spinach You can add in extras if you want, but I didn't have much veggies in the fridge, so I didn't use much. MATERIALS: Knives Bowl Budgie food cup Cutting board Grater METHOD: 1. Gather all of your ingredients and wash them thoughly. Also make sure they are fresh and that budgies can eat them. Please DO NOT use avocados, chocolate or alcohol. These are bad for budgies and can make them very sick. 2. Get your broccoli and scrape the seed type bits off the top. And put them in the bowl. So far, it should be looking a bit like this. http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy239/B...drandoms008.jpg More budgies won't eat the other bit (sorry, don't know what it is called ) So throw it in the bin. Unless, of course, you find it useful for something else. 3. Next, get your carrot and grate the outer skin off. The inside is the bit that you want. When the outer skin is off, start grating the inside into the bowl. It should now start to look a bit like this. http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy239/B...drandoms009.jpg 4. Here is the easiest bit of all! Just grab some spinach leaves and rip them up! However, don't put in too many spinach leaves as the result may end up being diareah. Here is what it should look like now. http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy239/B...drandoms010.jpg http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy239/B...drandoms011.jpg 5. Now we move onto the cucumber. This is the bit which probably is going to take up the most time. To start with, though, chop off the end bit. http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy239/B...drandoms012.jpg Then get the grater and grate all of the skin off. Like this. http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy239/B...drandoms013.jpg Then, chop up the cucumber into cubes. A bit like this. http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy239/B...drandoms014.jpg http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy239/B...drandoms015.jpg Throw the outer skin in the bin. 6. Here is the last bit. As a finishing touch, get an apple and chop a slice up into cubes. The rest of it is for you! Unless you have an avairy. By now, it should look a little something like this. http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy239/B...drandoms016.jpg And don't forget to mix it up! http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy239/B...drandoms017.jpg 7. Serve! http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy239/B...drandoms018.jpg http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy239/B...drandoms019.jpg And your done! Hope your budgies like it! August 27, 201014 yr That is a lovely little salad! I am sure your budgies enjoy it. I do a salad, too. It has similar ingredients to yours. It includes flowers of broccoli roughly chopped (my siamese fighting fish get those little bits from the top). I partially cook the carrot and dice it. I use zucchini rather than cucumber. I also add sprouted mung beans. My budgies dig into the salad at once for the mung beans and carrot. They would not eat grated carrot.
August 27, 201014 yr Yum. I'd eat that, minus the broccoli Actually the broccoli stalk is really nice raw, I cut the hard outside off and your left with the white centre.
August 27, 201014 yr "Yummy Budgie Salad" Mix olive oil and balsamic vinegar together. Toss assorted budgies in a bowl and cover with oil/vinegar mix. Crumble basil over the top. Hey presto - yummy budgie salad! Make sure you use different coloured budgies to add interest to your salad. Sorry couldn't help myself But I did really like your more proper budgie salad too!

No need to peel it off and throw it in the bin. The budgies need it all
August 28, 201014 yr Looks delicious! I agree about the skins... just wash everything well, but no need to peel it. You could also add some yummy fresh beetroot and fresh corn, and they would be in budgie heaven No need to peel the beetroot, and they love the leaves too No need to take the storks off the spinach... that's their favourite part. I used to feed my birds a delicate salad like yours once, but now they get whole vegitables, roots, leaves and all! and they love it! Edited August 28, 201014 yr by **Liv**
