Hi All,

 

I still cant sex young budgies and I have this one marked by a friend who wants a female. Any ideas ? pics not too clear.

 

Looks male to me

I know i have no experience compared to Kaz but the white rings around the nose doesn't that make the bird a female.

Females would have an overall white look to the cere not just nostrils....

 

I keep hearing this white rings around nostrils stuff, but if you look at a young female near on all the cere is whitish not just nostrils. In these photos the cere looks purplish pink. Is this a clear representation of the colours of the cere Ritchie ?

Im confused now LOL.

The birds cere looks similar to the one you have showed Kaz but its not a even looking. The other baby from this clutch has a very even pink so I assume one is male and the other female. I'll try to get a better picture.

well what is mum and dad as if mum is not cinnamon but dad is then it has to be a female and if its dad and mum are both not cinnamon then that means that it also must b female

if mum is cinnamon and dad also then could be male or female

im saying male looks male to me

also if mum cin and dad is normal it could be male or female but i still say male

I would say female, I also sex through white rings around nostrils, could you get a better picture by any chance?

okay, my head is spinning after that GB, rofl. Goes and looks on the Ken Yorke Variety Bible, and I say it looks male. I thought our recessive pied was female, until I saw an identical one in a pet shop the same size as ours and when it turned around the cere was brown.

Just because a bird is certain colour and size, it doesn't mean they need to be the same gender.

 

eg.

show us a picture of both birds and also tell us what you see in real life.

im sorry but that is just a random statment if i ever heard one

 

the bird looks to be cock as its got blue on its cre no white rings around nostrils but a very purpley look to it

as for the rings and nostrils thing thats not a sure sighn but can indicate toward being female but that cinnamon green is in my opinion a cock bird

 

as for what i said before its quiet easy to work out its possible gender if the genetics were known to us

unless both peronts were cinnamon

or mother was cinn and father split to it

thats what i was getting at

I need a better picture for me to ago, as to me from the picture looks male in the way the he cere looks a fleshy, but overall nice birds I think they have style

He got named 'Ariel', because of the nostril rings, and I didn't know better. But he is definitely a boy! He's very bonded with a hen, and he's over a year old now, and has never had a brown cere, or any change in his cere at all.

You can't just look at the nostrils, you have to consider the over all color of the whole cere.

Thankyou very much Finnie !! ............I have been trying to show this exact thing for so long. Everyone seems to use the phrase nostril rings to explain sexing, but it IS an overall white that you must see to say its a female not nostril rings. Nostril rings is the wrong way to go :thumbs_up:

Hmmm a debate going on here lol,white around the nostrils is the case as far as sexing young budgerigars make no mistake about it,i have a mate of mine writing an article "he's been breeding budgerigars for over 30 years & is well known by a lot of breeders"i will post it here when he is done. The fact of the matter is, this rule does not apply when sexing recessives & ino's as is the case with the picture above "recessive".In he's article he will explain how to sex ino's and recessives ,Watch this space cheers Phill

Thankyou! I was just about to say sexing rec. and ino's is different. I still go by my original statment.

I'm pretty sure that your budgie is male.
