hello

today i had a friend bring me some nice big pieces of cuttle bone straight from beach

i was wondering

what others do before giving it to birds

do you wash it ,if so hot or cold

do you sun bake it

oven bake if so for how long

or do you just brush off the sand and feed

???

the last thing i want to do is introduce some bug but at same time i want to keep the goodness of the fresh salt

opinions please

I wash mine then leave for a few days to dry. Then I scrape the top layer off.

Me too.

I do the same as above too when I ever get it like that :rip:

You cant give it straight from the beach as they can have all kinds of stuff attached to it. Have you ever smelt it fresh from the beach ? Most of the time it stinks like something rotten has died on top of it.

My son Adam sends it over from WA for me every now and again, he washes and lets it drive over there and when I get I do the same thing. It's fine

Do you wash it in plain water?

Yes,I rinse it under the tap and let it dry for a day.

:rip: cheers all

I put mine in a bucket with hot water, gave it a scrub with the scrubbing brush then let it dry out in the sun for a couple of days.

ps GB all birds are doing great, 3 of the babies went to new homes, and from what I hear are thriving. I kept one, who is friendly as, and he now rules the house!

I sit mine in a bucket of water and then rinse and repeat a couple of times, it sits in the water for a couple of hours before rinsing and then let it dry out in the sun for a couple of days.
