September 5, 201014 yr Very exciting for Both of you (Dave and Dustin), I still get excited when my new ones turn up :emoticon112:
September 7, 201014 yr Author Update:  Pair 1 have their first egg but unfortunately it was layed off the perch and it cracked. I did not realise at first and put it in the nestbox but the hen threw it out. I put a fake egg in the nestbox to try to give her the hint of where she should lay the nest egg.  Pair 2 have four eggs of their own and a foster egg. She appears to be incubating the eggs well.  Pair 3 have their first egg layed in the nestbox  Pair 4 - one of them ate their first egg so I removed the second egg. I have placed 2 fake eggs in the nestbox and the hen has decided to "incubate" these eggs. With any luck she will lay a few more and not eat them. I will see how she goes.
September 7, 201014 yr Good luck with them all Dave ....especially pair number four. I have a nest that had three eggs in one day and just one egg the next
September 7, 201014 yr Author Good luck with them all Dave ....especially pair number four. I have a nest that had three eggs in one day and just one egg the next  Thanks and it is a shame as she is quite possibly my best hen
September 7, 201014 yr I have had that problem too Dave. False eggs work a dream and if they fail I transfer the eggs to another nest.
September 7, 201014 yr Author I have already transferred one egg and now the fake eggs are in there we will see how she goes.
September 7, 201014 yr  for you Dave  That iffy hen that I got at the meeting belonging to Ian. Well he kept her because she is a top hen, she came 7th I think at the uncap show when she was a baby. But he has never got anything out of her. I have been lucky she laid the first round and destroyed eggs, so when she laid second time I left eggs there for a bit and when I relised they were fertile I tranfered them and now I have 3 little babies very happy. I have her with my white df spangle son of my white df spangle and I plan on doing the same thing again  But I am thinking they might not be fertile as it is too soon since she laid the last lot. Babies have just being rung.
September 8, 201014 yr Author Update of the breeding pairs  Pair 1- 1 egg laid in the nestbox  Pair 2- 5 eggs, one which is a foster  Pair 3 have 1 egg  Pair 4- 1 new egg laid and hen looks happy to incubate and not eat the egg. Extra calcium in the water will hopefully stop the hen thinking she needs to eat the egg for calcium
September 11, 201014 yr Author Photobucket is playing up, so I cannot upload pics at the moment, but egg count is as follows:  Pair 1 - 2 eggs  Pair 2 - 5 eggs of their own and 1 foster  Pair 3 - 3 eggs  pair 4 - 1 egg (and 1 that has been fostered out) - the two small eggs you see are fakes that encourage her to not eat the other egg  As soon as photobucket is operational, then i will upload :sadsorry:
September 13, 201014 yr Author I have since discovered that the problem was my internet connection, not Photobucket, so apologies to the good people at Photobucket.  Anyway, enough with that. Here we go. The pics are a day old, so the egg count might be different to the number of eggs in the pics.  Pair 1 - 3 eggs   Pair 2 - 5 eggs of their own and 1 foster   Pair 3 - 4 eggs   pair 4 - 2 eggs (and 1 that has been fostered out) - the two small eggs you see are fakes that encourage her to not eat the other eggs   I also put some other pairs down.  Pair 5 - I paired two Gregoriou birds together. His birds are based on Scoble bloodlines and this was at his suggestion to maintain the bloodlines. Opaline Cobalt Cock with a Green Normal Hen    Pair 6 - A Gregoriou hen to a son of Dumber(RIP). This hen was tried previously and she ate her eggs. She paired up with this cock in the aviary and I thought that they might have more luck if paired together. Violet Opaline Spangle Cock with a Cinnamon Winged GreyGreen Hen  Pair 6 - A stunning Gregoriou Green Normal Cock to a dark marked Green Spangle Hen (could only find a yng picture - update later)    Pair 7 - Dumb to an Lovely Dommie Pied with the lot (almost) Opaline Sky Spangle Cock with an Opaline Green Spangle Domminant Pied Hen  Edited September 13, 201014 yr by Dave_McMinn
