Im thinking of buying my son a pet Rabbit for his birthday , does anyone here have rabbits and which types do you recommend?

Wish I could advise, but when I bought rabbits for my kids ( many, many moons ago ;) ) I apparently bought the SCRATCHY KIND :( and not the CUDDLY KIND :)

Not 100% sure cause I have only ever a couple rabbits over the years but the ones I had were mixed breed and quite but they were handled a lot. I think those dwarf types are usually pretty quite. There's a lop type, can't remember the proper name, but I think they are suppose to be quite tame also.

Matt, contact somebody from a Rabbit club and they may be able to advise you better.

my rabbit max is a dwaf lop ear rabbit

he is not that small but hes like a dog

he infact just runs around the yard like a dog comes like a dog and lays down with the dog

he also trys to ,....the dog thats his down fall ;)

aprat from that best 50.00 i spent on a rabbit

i only ever had the half breeds rip was talking about

but never ever any bunny as lay back as max

all fully tamed and free range but max excels where best bunny is concerned

i was after a Flemish giant they are by far the best pet ever but i couldn't get hold of one by Easter so...

but glad max came along

get a young one 6 weeks 4 if possible

also get immunized against kalessi virus (i cant spell it sorry ) :)

get male

females are temperamental when in season, not unlike the human race :(

and can sometimes bite :)

I would recommend the lop eared. We had them as kids and used to show them. Like GB said they have good temperaments. My sister has 2 and her young kids love them.

I agree. I was going to say lop eared, I find that they are quite gentle and not physcho jumpy scratchy like some rabbits.

And they are super cute ;)

I used to have a breeding pair of Mini Lops - they were the best little rabbits I've owned out of all the types. I had a little black buck and a Blue fawn Doe. They produced some beautiful babies.

The other types I have had have been a New Zealand Rex Buck and his Dwarf x NZ Rex Doe - they produced some beautiful babies but I much prefer the Mini Lops.

I had a dwarf..... He kind of went wild.... I believe he had children. He went back to his hutch when something frightened him. I didn't see him for months one time ( our land is massive and on the edge of town ). I got him when I was 6. He lived a year then an eagle got him ( mum was watching ). I recommend them. Peter ( yep ) was the tamest thing even though I didn't see him much.

Thanks for the replies, will look for a local breeder of the dwarf lop eared

they do poo alot and matt the do become ferral if not held each day for at least fiftine mins

i end up being ownner of my daughters lop

so be prepared to be the owner of yours after about 3 months

but hey suggest getting rid of it as they are not responcible for their care

and look out :blink::D

I agree that they do pooh alot but they can be littered trained very easy. With my late Netherland dwarf rabbit. She was littered trained very quickly, just in a few days.
