Posted August 23, 201014 yr I posted not long ago on colony breeding was advised againts it did my research and decided it wasnt what i wanted to do so i purchased a breeding cabinet and plan on purchasing a few more and finally pursuing my hobby. I left one pair in the avairt (my good bonded pair) moved another into a cabinet and moved my babies into a proper budgie cage (rectangular). I realised to late i should of bought another cabinet and moved both pairs into their own cabinets and put babies in avairy... Anyhow this morning i went into avairy to put up netting as i was advised to stop mum or dad flying out. As i was doing this dad flew out and i couldnt catch him! i am so angry at myself and cant stop crying. This is made so much worse because mum is sitting on 3eggs!! WHAT DO I DO? I'm worried mum bird cant do this on her own and needs her partner! im devasted! Do i need to feed her each day witha syringe or will she leave the nest looking for food?? PLEASE HELP!! Will be posting this in multiple sections for fast response
August 23, 201014 yr I deleted your other two topics which were repeats of this one and not allowed to post multiple repeats topics on this forum. However as regards advice, if she is alone in that aviary and she has only three eggs she will be fine. Three eggs if fertile she can cope with. They do get off their eggs for breaks, to feed and poop so it will remain the same with or without him in the aviary. All your job is now is to be sure she has readily available food at all times. NO you dont need to syringe feed her at all. You may consider adding seed to her nestbox or sprigs of millet to assist her, but she will manage with three chicks if the eggs are all fertile. Be on the lookout for the Dad returning just in case. PLEASE HELP!! Will be posting this in multiple sections for fast responseNot allowed. These other posts have been deleted. August 23, 201014 yr Thanks... Do you mean i can sprinkle some seed inside her box?? Not just a few sprinkled..............a lot. Like in this topic http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=22446
August 23, 201014 yr Author Thanks heaps!!. One more question.. When do i move her to her own breeding cabinet? . I worry now that when the chicks are born if the leave nest before mum because they dont have dad to watch them.... Should or can i move her now or when chicks are hatched or shouldi wait for the chicks to all leave the nest?. I can move her box into a breeding cabinet as her box will fit the ones i have. Still looking for dad.. no luck as of yet
August 23, 201014 yr You cannot move her now. Leave her where she is till she is done raising her babies. Any major disruptions and moving right now and she will most likely abandon her eggs and nest. Edited August 23, 201014 yr by KAZ
August 23, 201014 yr Where is she and where is her box? Read first post. She is in the aviary and now alone.
August 23, 201014 yr I knew you would say that Kaz, But i did read the first post and I got confused over the one breed box etc. I am also got double confused over why whould you want to take a mother away from eggs or move nest so sorry got muddled But in put on this Lisa is leave her where she is, she will hatch chicks and raise them quite happily on her own. Don't go moving her around as Kaz said she will abandon the chicks.
August 23, 201014 yr and leave a cage for dad with seed and water on top of aviary as he may come back could take few days so leave it out with door open he will hop in and eat then stay their as the cage to him will feel safe he may not come back but if bonded well they hear each other calling and he may return
August 23, 201014 yr I had this situation once. The mum was on 4 chicks. She fed them all, and the grew to be healthy birds Good Luck.
August 23, 201014 yr Author Thanks everyone.. Did what you said Kaz put seed in the box for her. What i meant by my little rant at the beginning was basically i am an idiot. I don't know why i didnt just put them in a cabinet to begin with. I'm so mad at myself. Cried today when i went out and saw mums head poking out of box chirping and looking for her mate
August 23, 201014 yr Make sure she also has fresh soft food especially around early morning feeds and afternoon around 4 PM. Soft food as in egg and biscuit if its easier for you, or porridge oats mixed with water and mashed egg if you can manage it. More important when she has chicks than now but also good for her as well. Edited August 23, 201014 yr by KAZ
