Wild Budgies In Alice Springs

Featured Replies

Posted

During a trip to Alice Springs this last week I had the great pleasure to watch and snap some pics of wild budgerigars nesting in trees on the Todd River. The season in and around Alice has been fantastic with great rainfall and there is currently lots of seeing grasses and plenty of access to water. Even saw some cockatiels flying around. Was like being in an enormous and very beautiful aviary!

Checking out a nesting hole.

Thanks heaps for the photos. Great to see our budgie " cousins" out there in their natural habitat.

Nice one Nubbs, thats one of the few places I havent been too yet. Wont be long though! Done some nice country in between recently :laughter:

Great pics, there is nothing quite like seeing the birds you breed out in the wild, I remember on a road trip from Noosa to Darwin, seeing many a wild budgie, plus zebra finches, cockatiels, northern rosellas, hooded parrots and many many more! At a rest stop about 80km north of Mt Isa, we come across a massive breeding colony, every nest hollow had chicks or eggs!! It was incredible. Also nesting with them were Cockatiels, and on the ground their were spinifex pigeons. I should upload some pics, as I have thousands of pics from several places in Australia :(
