September 5, 201014 yr Looking good Squeak, really cute at that age I think so anyway I have a clearbody hen in my nest, the other are to young to tell. This one has very pale feathers on her head so I am guessing clearbody exciting
September 5, 201014 yr great looking parents Squeak. looking forward to seeing the chicks when they start to feather up.
September 15, 201014 yr Author okay Update: All chicks opaline and clearbody of course  Oldest: Is looking slightly splayed, toes not gripping properly. I am moving the legs 3 itmes a day. It seems like the left leg(rung leg) the joint seems a bit funny. The ankle (I think that is what you call it) is locking straight, I can bend it, but the chick automatically locks it straight. This causes the chick to lean on that side, and then other siblings squash it in that position. It doesn't seem to have as much body fat as the others. Green Series.  2nd Oldest: Very plump and healthy, standing well. Is larger then the oldest, but feathers aren't as grown in, as it is younger. Green Series.  Youngest: BLUE SERIES!!! Looks violet?? Slight splayed legs, growing nicely though. Any attempt of makeup sponge or string is chewed by momma.  Foster: Some type of opaline/spangle grey or blue. Nicely growing chick.
September 16, 201014 yr Author Some pictures  Oldest: Funny Leg:  It does bend easy though:  Green Violet?  Wings:  Body:  Second Oldest/Middle:  Youngest: Lovley black and white contrast, pictures are showing up (on my moniotr) nearly the same violet.  More pictures to come.... September 17, 201014 yr Two chicks in a clutch with leg or feet issues means something isnt right............something needs correcting. What are you doing in regard to calcium levels and nesting materials ?
September 18, 201014 yr Author Two chicks in a clutch with leg or feet issues means something isnt right............something needs correcting. What are you doing in regard to calcium levels and nesting materials ? Â Nesting materials is wood shavings about 3cm deep. I begin to add seed as they get older. They have calcium blocks and they are given calcivet every second day of water.
September 18, 201014 yr Author do you have concaves s-q  Yup. Normally I make a slight dip in the shavings where the concaves would be with my knuckles.  I am trying a different brand of sponges, and I am hoping it will work this time.
September 18, 201014 yr The sponges need to be the high density foam like makeup sponges are made from .....its firmer. Â Â Â http://img.diytrade.com/cdimg/877648/85577...-latex_Puff.jpg Edited September 18, 201014 yr by KAZ
September 18, 201014 yr Author Yes, they are make-up sponges. I have previously used white ones, but I thought maybe I should change the colour, so i got green ones. So far the parents haven't been picking.
September 18, 201014 yr How close are the holes for the legs ? You have to have them closer together than you think. Post a picture.
September 18, 201014 yr Author How close are the holes for the legs ? You have to have them closer together than you think. Post a picture. Â okay, getting dark now but I would estimate about 1cm. maybe a bit more. I will take a picture tommorow.
September 21, 201014 yr Author Wow, and eventful 24 hours. Â I got home yesterday to find the foster chick dead on the floor, parents blood all over them, half eaten. Three TCB's automatically taken out, and after a discussion with Kaz, I removed the mother and put the chicks on the floor in an icecream container. One chick was begging for food, the other two were lying down. The dad immediatley targeted the ones lying down, after giving a swift nip to the one begging. He begun to chew on the younger birds feathers. I immediatley shooed him away, and took the birds out. Only then did I realise they had been minorly feather plucked. Â I was fortunate enough to have a club meeting last night, otherwise I don't know what I would have done. The closest two breeders to me only have eggs and pinkies, and it appears most of the breeders in my club had that also. (my other three nests all have eggs) Â I am fortunate enough for forum member, Sunnie, to have taken the three chicks that night. I crop fed them twice, that afternoon and at the meeting. Sunnie had a father finsihing raising a clutch of chicks that were feathered, but not perching/eating yet (correct me if wrong, Sunnie :rip: ) The most recent update I have is this: Baby update: I put one of the babies in with the foster pair this morning at about 6am. By 8am when I left for work, it didnt really look as if he had been fed, but neither had the other chick. I will obviously check on them when I get home, fingers crossed he will be adopted. I crop fed the other two about that time and changed their box, cleaned it up and reheated their wheat bag. I have brought them into work with me and have just changed their box, reheated their bag and fed them again. They seem to be doing fine.
September 21, 201014 yr Author Thanks Nerwen  I hope I get three healthy chicks, it is a pity (and a lesson learnt) that I didn't get 4.
