Violet Clearbody X Grey-green Clearbody

Hi All!

I have a hen on 6 eggs, first one is due to hatch any time now. She is a Violet Opaline Texas Clearbody and the cock is a Grey-Green Opaline Texas Clearbody. First egg was laid on the 1st, and I am giving a few days leway because it is chilly right now. About 3-4 eggs look fertile out of the 6.

Pictures! (they don't do her justice, like any violet bird)

No way! :( I love her to bits. Her name is Violet (ironically enough). I am really hoping to get pinkies, (jelly beans :) ) , these chicks can hopefully make it to the bench.

:(:) I had planed breeding the blue series clearbodies, bought an albino hen to put with him but to me the hen is pretty crappy any I have loaned her Clearwingfor the a round. She is looking better as she gets older.

Now that i know my clearbody is fertile when Geoff finishes with her i will put him with her, might get nice birds :)

I am breeding mainly clearbodies, with YF Blues as a smaller line. So both series for me :).

Aweomse, just make sure the clearbody doesnt throw DIS's. I have a chick in another nest, so I bet they will all start arriving together :( Will walk out tommorrow and the whole nest in both nest's would have hatched  (or not,,, I wish :) )

Wow, I have completley forgot to update :) The 3 fertile eggs have all hatched.

Chicks are looking healthy and well, and growing quite fast.

Woohoo!! Very cool! I dont live with regret, I learn from mistakes and move on, and selling her to you wasnt a mistake, I still have her two sisters :D

Looking forward to pics as they feather up :D

The cock is grey green, so he carries the blue factor in him with the grey.

I think there is some confusion here on the blue or grey gene. If the cock is is greygreen, he is not split blue. Do not work on the assumption that you will get blues from a grey. That is not correct.

I agree and disagree with Dave here, grey green is from grey and a green bird not blue. The only way a grey green bird could be split for blue if he has blue in his back ground.

when I say split for blue is I know putting to grey green together you can get blue series if blue is in there background, so yes split for blue, I put 2 grey green spangle down over 3 nest and got 2 greys, 2 white Df spangles, one sky blue spangle, 2 grey greens and 4 grey green spangles.

We were shocked as we didn't expect it so I asked the origional breeder for their background and both birds had blue in their backgrounds. I am talking about my wow bird grey green spangle cock and the grey green opaline hen that Greg bought for my birthday 3 years ago.

ive always said grey will give blue if grey to grey breeding has birds from blue to grey breeding

so

its not completely true grey does not give blue

grey to grey can give blue ive always stood by this

but i think grey green may be diffrent

not sure

as most grey greeens from grey to green or greey green to grey breed birds

I've always understood that the grey factor is a color adding gene (like violet), and that it is separate from the green/yf/blue series. So whether the gray gene is there or not, has no effect on whether the bird will be green series or blue series. The same rules still apply in that the green birds have to be split for blue to produce a blue offspring.

I think the confusion comes in when we start to think of the grey bird as something other than just a blue bird with a grey factor (or 2).

Finne is right, grey is a adding factor and separate from the blue gene

a grey bird is a bird lined bird with the grey factor. a grey-green is a green lined bird with the grey factor.

So the cock bird in the instance might not be split for blue, the answer will appear in the chicks.

Ohhh okay, I get it now  Thanks, I really don't like genetics much.

Updated pictures:

Foster chick is slowly catching up. I think I have all hens.

Nest pictures:If you can make the tangle out, largest chick is oldest. Foster is fluffiest down bottom with head out the top. Youngest chick is bottom left. Middle chick is top right.
