Baby Sick

I put my 11 week old healthy babies in the avairy on Saturday.....

This afternoon there was one of those baby's on the cold cement, I grabbed it and put it in a hospital cage with a heat lamp...it ate hand raring mix with gutso.....looks very sick though....very thin.....all other babies are doing great.....

I have noticed it has a poopy bum.......none of my other birds do...I have 2 broad spectrum antibiotics here but I don't want to self diagnose........

Whay should I do other than what I'm doing????

Poopy bottom is also an indicator of not eating and not necessarily something that needs antibiotics.

Thanks Kaz..... I will feed her 3 hourly throughout the night.... ;)

I prefer to use Sulpha AVS before any harsh drugs. If needed do you have any on hand.

But saying that I have a young hen about the same age and she went backwards when I put her in the aviary which most babies do but this hen just seemed to struggle so now she is back in the nappy cage happy as larry. Her bum was wet in the aviary but now fine without any meds.

I try to keep my babies longer in the kindie cage before going in the aviary during winter.

Then you have to be sure there is a zillion places they can access food in the aviary and watch out for bullying types that stop others eating from certain dishes.

Thanks Kaz and Splat...

She made it through the night having 3/4 hourly feeds of hand raring mix with the heat lamp on all night.

Kaz: I will keep them in the kindy cage longer now over winter...

Splat: What is Sulpha AVS? Is it the same as Sulpha D?
