Posted August 15, 201015 yr I have been asked to take a so called "runner" budgie that can't fly as the owners can't keep it anymore. It has never had flight feathers on one wing. I have not yet seen the bird.... If I were to adopt this bird after normal quarentine would it be able to be introduced to my flock? Or would it pass on whatever it has to my birds....... Is this caused by beak and feather disease or would it have french moult?? Are these always contagious??

Are these always contagious?? its a virus and possably it could be a carryer bird if you dont have fm in your flock and want to try and keep it that way i wouldnt take it but then in saying that some birds that get fm fully recover so you mayhave a bird whom had it you would never know unless brought young or breed yourseelf they say birds that never recover carry it but stress starts it off (activates the virus) from what i can gather so many different thoughts on matter some say all birds hold the virus sorry i dont have more
August 16, 201015 yr Author Thanks for your input GB...... I had a bad feeling about this so as much as I want to give this bird a good new home I am not going to take the risk....
August 16, 201015 yr It does sound like french moult. Sorry Anne I wouldn't take it because it is bad enough when you breed your own runners, which luckily I don't have any here but they are a waist of space , I know that sound cruelled but so true. You are just asking for problems when you start taking in birds with problems.
August 16, 201015 yr Author Thanks Kaz and Splat....I'll phone them today and let them know I can't take it...
