has anybody who uses quite a few breeding cages ever used a automatic watering system especially in the uk as the only ones i can find are in the states.do they save time, are they practical any comments would be very helpfull especially if you know any where in the uk that supplies them

Well all my birds use water bottles.

Budgies and finches have mouse sized ones, cockatiels hamster sized ones and parrot rabbit sized one.

I only have to change the water every few days which makes going away over night much stress free. You could leave the water for a week but I like to change it every 3 days to stop it going stale.

i thought of using these were they easy to get the birds to use

i use like a mini automatic water drinker, it has a tray at the bottom attatched to the bottle at the top and my budgies have no problems.and it keeps the water clean, as long as i change it a few times a week.

i read somewhere that if u use the bottles you shou8ld use them from the budgie being a baby or it will confuse them, and they drip, that is what happens with my hamster anyway and it is quite messy.

sorry for the length... :bluebudgie:

i bought mine from my local pet shop.

automatic watering system i am talking about has a central resavoir and each cage has a drinking nipple the reavoir feeds each nipple via pipes

I've seen what your onabout Heath but only in the US.

Well my Lutino cockatiel taught her self (found her using the guinea piigs bottles) then she taught the parrot and the other cockatiels.

I put one on each of the budgie and finche cages and they used it right away.

aren't they messy though?

cuz the 1 i have in my hamster's cage drips. doesn.t it in the bird's cages?

thanks PyscoFalcon i might try a couple of these and see how they go

budgieteen i use the same as you at the moment but they tend to get fowled up with seed husks and excrament very quickly ie approx over 3 or 4 hours

I am having no problems with mine at the moment, it stays clean until i change the water.

i might also try the bottles to see how well they go.

Hi, sorry to butt in here but I see from your posting you use the automatic water drinker... can I just ask if you have any problems with these? The ones I have bought leak over the edge after a while, I keep replacing them and the same happens, it's driving me mad! Trouble is Percy (my budgie 3 yrs old) will NOT drink out of the cage hopper, the one supplied - I've tried everything to get him to use it.. he uses the feed one but won't use the water one. The automatic one is leaking again (this is the 5th one) and so I took it out of the cage and would only put water in the hopper, but that night he was desperate for a drink, so I HAD to put the automatic dispenser one back and he woofed it up. Is there anything else I can use do you know.. or anyway I can persuade him to use the "proper" one... I just can't stand the leaking of water into the cage and onto the top outside. Would appreciate any help.. thanks. x

Would he use a small shallow dish of water on the floor? Or one of those white plastic bowls that just hook onto the inside?

Hi thanks for your response. He NEVER goes on the floor, he lived on it when we first had him but since he found the perches he never goes there. As for the white hook on feeders.. have tried it.. won't use it.... I go mad every time over this... I just wish he would use the hopper that is attached on the cage.... seems I will just have to keep on using the auto drinker and just keep mopping up the leaks.. argh!

But if the auto drinker wasn't there then maybe he would have to use a clip on bowl?

Budgies don't always drink every day and some hardly drink at all-even wet lettuce would give them enough moisture.Maybe he does drink but you don't actually see him doing it?

Julie

im going to try those drinkers for small animals ive never thought of using them for budgies...do the budgies dink from them easily?
