Posted August 6, 201015 yr I am thinking of dividing my (inside) bird room so that I can let my budgies fly around in one half of it. My cockatiels will be in the other half. I have examined many possibilities and the most suitable material to use seems to be a wire mesh where the squares made by the wires are 12.7mm x 12.7mm. The wire is 1.00mm thick. Would this mesh be safe? Also, would I need to treat the mesh in any way before I use it? It is described as 'PE coated galvanised wire mesh'. Is there something better which I could use?
August 6, 201015 yr Author It seemed like wire to me. I will check it out again. Would it be suitable either way?
August 6, 201015 yr I wouldnt use coated wire. I have seen it deteriorate over time. I agree with this. I have coated wire for some of the cages I have made, and there are places where the birds have chewed off the coating. It's not a problem in my situation, because they are small cages, and indoors. But in an aviary situation where it is exposed to the elements, and you would need to hose it down somtimes (I assume) it seems like it could become a problem.
