Miracle Chick

Featured Replies

Posted

I had a situation yesterday where a chick that wasnt due for at least three days hatched out when the egg was broken accidentally by a parent. There was blood everywhere and the egg sac attached and in all these cases these chicks bleed out and die within seconds. Both parents were attending to the chick. I thought okay I will leave it and go remove the dead chick in an hour or so.

When I next checked, the chick was still alive but covered in nesting material ( flaky bran ) as it had stuck hard to the blood. I cleaned some of it off and thought I will check again later. At evening feed the chick was still alive but unfed.

I expected to see it dead this morning but amazingly the chick is still alive and has been fed :P

This is a miracle chick and I have all my fingers crossed now as it has surpassed any expectations of being able to live through what it has been through already.

Will update.

Now this chick is one that you think will die, but survives, and it has earned a name.

Lazarus was famous for coming back from the dead.

Guess so Dave but maybe we need a unisex name :P

That is fantastic! :P Phoenix was the name I was thinking of as I read through the post.

Don't phoenixes die and then come back to life?

Don't phoenixes die and then come back to life?

A phoenix is a mythical bird that is a fire spirit with a colorful plumage and a tail of gold and scarlet (or purple, blue, and green according to some legends). It has a 500 to 1000 year life-cycle, near the end of which it builds itself a nest of twigs that then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg arises, reborn anew to live again. The new phoenix is destined to live as long as its old self.

The chick is doing well. I picked it up today to check. Had a full crop and ..........

believe it or not it had an umbilical cord with the dried out egg sac still attached. :o

I guess that will drop off by tomorrow.

Wow Kaz.....I really hope he/she makes it :o

I think you should call her/him either ....

Aldara (dara for short) meaning: A winged gift ......

Samara (sam for short) meaning: Guarded by god...

She will. She is strong and showing no signs at all of going backwards.

What an amazing little chick. Could this be a record?

I dont know, but 99.9% -100% of these chicks with so much bleeding from chick and shell die within seconds. this is one very determined chick with a will to live. There was so much blood that it covered my fingers.
