Just Found A Chick Been Hatched, Help Lol

Hi all, very new to this, had given up on breeding the birds as they are getting on 2 years old and have never shown signs of having fertile eggs, until I was walking past the avery this evening and hears a few squeaks, out of 4 eggs in one box one has so far hatched

Now what I am really worried about is the cold, they are outside in breeding box, in an avery, it is reasonably sheltered but is outside none the less. Do I need to worry given here in Melb it is freezing lol

Also, all the food in the avery is the standard seed. I do get seed from a proper bird shop and they assure me it is the highest quality and a good blend, do I need to provide any other food.

The mother is sitting ontop of the chick, if I try and even get near it I get attacked by both mum and dad lol, figured is best to just leave be for a few days so as not to cause stress to either the chick or the parents

Any help would be awesome, i have read heaps on these fantastic forums, little information overload to be honest but have some of the jist of it

On a final note, I have read in many posts about greens and veggies, do these birds prefer anything in particular, have tried in the past to have various fruit and vegies in the avery but has never been looked at.

Carrots are good. Giving your birds things with high protein, like eggs (whole and crushed) along with silver beet, beetroot, strawberries just to name a few.

The chick will be fine as long as mama is on it, just make sure the cage has no drafts.

if you have other birds in the aviary id remove them to a smaller cage or cage the birds who are not its mum n dad

(says you have five birds ) or the chick or another bird could get hurt or killed

as mum will be supper protective

toss in some fresh grass or seedling grass and bit milk thistle

also carrot like suggested

so long as the breeding box is not in wet or in open it should be warm enough in their

good luck
