I have 4 breeding cages, and they are normally taken up with my show birds. I plan on getting these pet-types to moult early, then I will put them in the breeding cages when my show birds moult.
September 23, 201014 yr Author Wow, I just realised I haven't updated in AGES Well, I have 5 chicks in one nest, with 2 more eggs to hatch. I think I will be fostering the oldest two into the others box as it is getting crowded. Oldest chick from Box 1. Box 1: (sorry for the flash) I dont record dates or ring etc, so I couldnt say how old but the youngest two are 0-5 days old. Box 2: Well, this is a suprise. Because I have a Cin. Pied Blue chick in that nest. Which would mean that any cock bird in the aviary is the father, as they would need to be split pied. I don't think that the YF Blue is split pied, I guess I will see through the next round of mating when I try the two together, but if he is it could mean he passed that on to the DF Spangle. I know the DF spangle, and the YF are both split cinnamon. Violet cock is ruled out because he isn't spangle. If anyone understood the above, here are the chicks. YF Blue Spangle (opaline maybe, from foster nest), Cinnamon Spangle Sky Blue Pied and one more that is to young to tell. ....okay, well rewinding everything I said about the split cock, me and Kaz have come to the conclusion it is just a muddy wing spangle cinnamon chick. The parents are most likely the spangle grey hen and DF Spangle split cin. from when I juggled their eggs around. The cocks father has muddy wings Edited September 23, 201014 yr by KAZ
September 29, 201014 yr Author that one under is being plucked hun so watch that :} Thanks, I have been watching. Mum only plucks down thank goodness. Well the oldest two are being raised and tamed by me, and I have moved a couple of the oldest from the larger nest into the single chick nest. Those last two eggs, one of them hatched but I htink it got suffocated by the other 5 or so siblings in the nest. One egg to hatch still. 3 in that nest, 3 in the other. The chicks get cropped 3-4.5mL about 2 or 3 times a day, depending how their crop feels. Normally in morning, lunch time and before bed. Here are some pictures of my mischevious little buggers. This is their little house : YF Opaline Spangle Blue Don't pretend....Us ladies all know their favourite hiding places! ( Don't mind my chin, I was looking down ) Opaline Cinnamon Spangle Blue. Oops a daisy! He likes sleeves I am a little ticklish when he does that!
