Featured Replies

hi everybody i went out to my birdroom this morning and i realised i had a double yolker egg and there are 2 embreos in side (its fertile) . I'm completly confused what should i do with the egg. let it hatch or dispose of it?

let it hatch...

If you do a search of double yokers you'll find some others on here have had them in the past... I say definitely keep it. :lol:

You will find that most of them ( 99%) at least will die before hatching as they run out of space in the egg to develop properly. Use the search function on BBC and punch in a search for twins and see what comes up.

I have had successful twins once and still have one of them here.

I also had two lots that died partway through developing.

Let it hatch. They often dont and may need assistance at hatch time, but even then they may die. Worth a try.

If you see the egg develop dark lines or staining on the shell at some point it will indicate the chicks died before they fully developed.

okay thanks for that everyone i will keep the egg and see what happends i don't think the chicks in the egg will run out of room for growing because the egg is twice the size of a normal budgie egg i dont know they might still run out of room for growing though?
