Posted August 1, 201014 yr Hi here are a few of my birds could you guys please help with the mutations. I not worried about splits ext as i dont know the parents.
August 1, 201014 yr 1 - Double Factor spangle male 2 - sky blue spangle 3 - sky blue spangle (same bird?) 4 - grey-green normal 5 - grey-green normal (same bird?)
August 1, 201014 yr Author Yes i have 5 pictures but there are only 3 different birdsBy The Way with the first bird what does double factor mean?
August 1, 201014 yr Double Factor, or DF, means it received two of the same gene from the parents, in this case a spangle gene from each parent, so therefore it is a DF spangle. Often the DF of a gene can change the appearance. A DF spangle appears to only have the body colour, either yellow or white, but sometimes there appears slight blue or green patches. A DF dominant pied has very limited pied markings. You have a DF spangle

August 1, 201014 yr yes a better picture is needed, it could just be poor markings or the fact that the bird is still young and so still has the pale tones of baby feathers.
August 1, 201014 yr The first link that rachelm posted was very good, I learnt from that and I am only 13 Easy peasy. As mentioned already, better pictures would be helpful

I started to look for a link to paste here, but it looks like everything is separated into many different articles. As for the link to the Budgie Place, that is where I learned the mutations, before I even knew about BBC. "Easy Peasy" is a very accurate description!
August 5, 201014 yr sorry.. It kind of looks like it might be a greywing spangle, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a normal spangle. Gosh, sorry to be so helpful! The markings on the very tips of the primary flight feathers look darker than the rest. Maybe after it moults out, it will be a clearer difference.
August 5, 201014 yr I was going to say spangle, but It is also clearwing or greywing. I have a normal spangle, and he looks different to this. I thik of spangle as reversing the pattern on wings ( eg. black with white ring ----> white with black ring) By adding in greywing/clearwing, this gives you a white with a grey coloured feather. If it was cinnamon for example, it would be white with cinnamon fringe.
August 15, 201014 yr Author Yep just looking at the brid in person i am agreeing with squeek greywing/clearwing I have two more birds i would like you guys to figure out for me aswell: Also any idea on sex? And this male.

Greywing/clearwing ? do you mean greywing or clearwing because the way you have written it looks as we would write greywing split clearwing which it wouldnt be. August 15, 201014 yr The birds have completly different wings?? DOnt they? So the second one is still called blue even though it has the green chest? Thanks. The second one is older and the yellow colour bleeds into the blue creating that green look. The baby one will look the same as the older one when it has moulted and is older too.
August 15, 201014 yr Author lol i have a question. Be honest what do you think of the secong bird looks wise??
