Female Feeding Male?

Featured Replies

Lexi feeds Chubba Chubs, I have heard females don't do the motion of bobbing heads and regurgitating unless feeding chicks? They act like a bonded pair ( not breeding them though!!) but Lex does all the work preening and feeding wise. Do females usually do that?

Ratzy, I was checking through the forum, and I came across a post from a few years back, that said to be careful , because the female only feeds the male when he is sick. It also said to check to see if she is not just begging. Hope that helpsAs far as preening, both budgies preen each other, ours do it all the time.

He's not sick, not visually anyway. They are all pretty healthy, I check them everyday for signs of illness, weight loss, poos, crops, feathers ect. Thimble ( female ) acts like a male as well, trying to mount Skye, though that could be a sign of dominance. In my flock, the males nibble the females, then the females preen them. I hope he's not sick.

Wouldn't they have grown out of it at 5 months?

Yes they should have. If in doubt take out the budgie in question and put him in a cage with white paper under the perch and monitor droppings and eating.

I'll keep an eye on him, I can't really move him to the hospital cage yet but I'll get it sorted by tommorrow.

He was fine.... as for Lexi, well.... I think I have a serious gender issue here, lol. She is still feeding Chubsy and is singing along with the males. And only yesterday I caught her trying to mount Chubba Chubs!!
