Posted July 29, 201015 yr greetings budgie lovers! So my landlord breeds budgies, he has 6 of them altogether, and we took one of the babies. We thought he was a SHE ... but 3 months later his beak turned blue in those 3 months his mother managed to lay another 4 eggs... and those 4 hatched as well. Our landlord has absolutely NO ROOM in his cage for anymore.. and our cage is huge with only one bird. so we took the babies. Im hand feeding them right now...I read that you are supposed to feed the really young babies (where they have little feathers) every 3 hours. and the more mature babies w/the set feathers about every 6 hours. Im a bit concerned because both my husband and I work... I fed the babies at about 9 am, 12 noon, and 2:30pm before I went to work. I wont be home till 10:30 tonight. They wont go hungry in the 8 hours that I'm not home will they? They obviously wont die but their only babies.. and I'm concerned for their health. I think I might put them back into the nest untill they're in their transitional period of switching from handfeeding to bird seed. I will be posting pics of the little guys once I get home from work. Looking forward to what everyone has to say!
July 29, 201015 yr Welcome to the forum. I am not a breeder but there is an excellent article on this forum that goes through the benefit of parent raised bird vs hand fed birds. I do suggest you put them back with the parent until they are weaned and if you want them tamed you can handle them vs feeding them or you can give them treats as they get older. The benefits of parent raised birds are huge...especially with behavioral issues. Anyways, welcome again.
