Posted July 27, 201015 yr Hi i have just got a new egg today in my breeding cabinet what should i use to write a number on it? Is this what you do to keep track of eggs? Edited July 27, 201015 yr by KAZ
July 27, 201015 yr Not necessary to number eggs, but if you do use a non-toxic marker pen (soft rounded tip).
July 27, 201015 yr Author But to enter them on records wouldent it be easyer if i know wat egg is wich? Or is there another way to tell?
July 27, 201015 yr I dont write on eggs. I prefer not to handle eggs and all I do is write the date it was laid on the card. Also, many an egg has been cracked or broken handling it more than necessary or trying to write on it. Edited July 27, 201015 yr by KAZ
July 27, 201015 yr It doesnt really matter if egg 1 hatches in order or what. I agree with Kaz - just write down when an egg hatches, and when you ring that chick you know its hatch date. What day or order it was laid or hatched on is irrelevant. What it grows up to be is important Edited July 27, 201015 yr by Dean_NZ
July 29, 201015 yr The saying YOU NEVER COUNT YOUR CHICKENS UNTIL THEY ARE HATCHED rings in my ears. Thats why I dont go to the trouble and fuss of writing on eggs. If I write on the card the date they are laid then I have an idea of hatch dates anyway. I do however, throw out any clear eggs where possible halfway through full incubation period after candling. Did I say THROW OUT ??!! No, I dont throw them out....I give them to my dogs shell and all. They love them Thats another saying of my mothers that I remember WASTE NOT, WANT NOT Edited July 29, 201015 yr by KAZ
