August 27, 201014 yr BAD!!!!!!! I agree. Its the first thing people tell you to buy and put in a cage. In my view it affects the mental stability of a bird. It gives themk something to feed and protect and I think thats a bad thing. Edited August 27, 201014 yr by KAZ
August 27, 201014 yr Author Thank you. I do have a toy in the cage which has a bit of mirror on it. It's about 1cm x 1cm and one of them has just discovered it. It's been in there about 2 months. I will take it out.

September 1, 201014 yr Author Me again. Still chirping and chattering all day. Now I have noticed they are sitting up higher in the cage. Not on their perches put one is hanging onto the side and the other is resting or perching on top of a toy? Does this mean anything?

Not on their perches put one is hanging onto the side and the other is resting or perching on top of a toy? Does this mean anything? It could mean that they wish their perches were as high as those toys! Seriously though, is this where they sit all day, or just at night for sleeping? I have a lot of birds that perch normally during the day, but at night they have a favorite toy to sleep on, or they prefer to hang on the side of the cage. Budgies do like to be high up, though, so it is normal for them to go near the top of their cage. Chirping and chattering all day sounds like happy budgies!
September 1, 201014 yr Author Thankyou. There is one perch that is as high as it can go. And I think the one that is sitting on the toy is her fav. I thought that hanging on the side of the cage looked uncomfortable. They mainly do this at dusk after eating. I did purchase some more wooden perches.
October 22, 201014 yr Author Hi there, Been a while. Just letting you know that budgies are doing really well. They chirp and chatter all day can get a little loud sometimes. We up graded the cage and now we can wheel it outside for fresh air. They love it. They hang upside down and play with their toys. The little white one is very cute, she is still under developed but seems happy enough. Any tips for summer?
