July 19, 201015 yr Wait till the eggs are around 5 days old. Dont remove the eggs to candle them. Get the hen out into the cage and while she is out use a bright penlight torch or candling torch ...put it behind the egg ( in the nest ) and shine it forward to you where you can see. Looking for pinkish reddish glow and veins at first.

Transfer of bacteria to porous eggshells is a risk. Its just not a necessary risk either as there is no need to handle and move eggs about.
July 19, 201015 yr my tourch is just little but ldd lights on it its not hard no need to move eggs also you could addle eggs if move them as mum moves them to percific places duering day n night to keep them growing right its very easy just try id wait 7 days so you can see defenently 7 days for each egg layed
